The last time he planned a date was a few weeks after we found out we were pregnant. He surprised me with tickets to see Hairspray at a local theater, and then to one of those restaurants with a menu made up of only local ingredients? I'm sure there's a proper name for them that's escaping me...

OH HELL NO. I let him plan it one time in our marriage...first & last time. Dairy Queen and a movie about The Titans(300)?!? I made him take me to a steak dinner after the movie and I wasn't nice about it :/

I'd be screwed if DH was in charge of date nights, LOL. Not that I'm much better...I have all these ideas (Indoor rock climbing! Ice skating! Drive-in! Bowling!). And then we end up going to dinner and a movie. Fail.

That's such a good idea! We usually just go out for dinner on our date nights. When I put DH in charge we usually drive around for an hour before he can figure out where we are going. I like the idea of writing a list and choosing from the list on date night.

My husband is a huge foodie, so he has no idea what a date is that isn't going out for a nice dinner! I like eating out too but there is more to life and romance than food, haha

We'd be watching netflix.

I'm jealous of the planners. The other day I made plans to take LO on a sleepover with my family. DH had a "man-date" slumber party planned with his best friend down to the freakin minute in less than an hour. The movie they would watch, which video games they would play and in which order, what they would eat, and how many hours they would sleep. DH couldn't see why I was upset that he had SO MUCH enthusiasm for a date with his friend but never plans anything for us.

Too bad for him my plans fell through and he never got his date.

I think he'd pick going to the beach for dinner then for a walk on the pier. That was actually our first date and something we both love to do.

He's actually pretty thoughtful when it comes to dates.... I'm sure he would take me pottery painting or something too.

Haha umm my DH sucks at planning dates. He leaves that to me...he can barely manage to pick dinner for normal nights! Now that I think of it, I don't think he's ever planned a date! I need to fix that..

I'm glad I'm not the only one whose SO is not creative about dates, and jealous of those of you whose SO's are creative! Helicopter rides? Hot tub garden? Those sound awesome!

@mrs. wagon: That's a really good idea! Maybe I'll suggest doing that and picking out an idea each Thursday to plan for Friday. Even though 1 out of 10 date ideas in the bowl will be mine, haha. Super cute about your coworkers.

Also, I just texted SO to ask if he had an idea yet and he said yes, and he couldn't wait...that he had planned a steak and BJ night. I said it has to be outside of the apartment, he said he can make it happen. MEN.

DH's idea of a date is going out to dinner. That is pretty much as far as it goes. He wouldn't even include a movie, just dinner.

My DH would probably just take me out for dinner or a movie too lol. I think he could come up with something better than that if he tried.

My SIL and her BF have a similar set up and he thinks up awesome things! Like outdoor mini put, star gazing, drive in movie, ect

lol! What about altering the plan a bit... maybe spend one of the date nights coming up with a huge list of ideas, putting them down somewhere, and each friday the picker picks one from the list? You could keep a google spreadsheet going of the dates you went on. (the geek in me says you could also keep track of how much you spent on each one, enjoyment level 1-10, etc... haha)

OR you could put the ideas on slips of paper into a bowl, and each friday night you pick out of the bowl! A coworker of mine recently retired with her husband and they were doing this EVERY SINGLE DAY after they retired together. It was awesome. One day they drove to the Maine coast to eat lobsters... another day it was off to Nantucket... etc. Amazing. You could also put in silly things that don't cost a thing so you are forced to make some fun memories... ;)

What does he come up with?

We recently decided that every Friday would be date night and we'd alternate planning the dates, in an effort to avoid falling into a rut. If we don't have anything planned, we usually end up watching a movie or show on Netflix, which is pretty much the same thing we do every other night. SO said he was a little bored by that, so we came up with this new plan.

The only rules are:
1.) The person in charge has to plan the whole thing without asking for help
2.) It has to take place outside of the house
3.) It should be relatively inexpensive
4.) No repeat dates in the same month (ie it can't just be dinner and movies every time.)

This is the first Friday we're attempting it and SO is the planner. Well, he's already told me several times that he can't think of anything! (Other than the aforementioned dinner and a movie.) I find that hard to believe because I've already made a list of 4 ideas for when it's my turn. When I told him that he asked if he could use one of my ideas. Um, no! As of this morning he didn't have a plan. I'm interested to see if he came up with anything during the day. If he hasn't, I'm going to make him watch a chick flick on Netflix and forbid him to utter the words, "I'm bored." (Just kidding...maybe.)

What kind of dates does/would your SO plan?

ETA: My ideas are mini golf and ice cream, bowling and pizza, packing a picnic and going to the drive-in movies, trail run at dusk followed by picnic in the park and stargazing.
