We were in a 2bd 1 bath place that was 1400 sq ft and we thought about having a baby there (actually the plan was to either but a house last year or have a baby and the house won.) It would not have been great though because of layout. We had gobs of closet space but in weird places, or coat closet was the size of a small bedroom, we had two linen closets and the closet in the baby/guest room was big but the master closet was tiny and there wasnt a pantry. Plus the living room was a super awkward shape.

I have an aunt who lives in a 1100 sq ft place with a great layout though and I could see raising two or three kids there...

We are currently moving into a 2 bedroom that is I think about 1000+ square feet? Give or take... It's not huge but has adequate storage since we are actually moving up from a one bedroom. We could have gotten something bigger but the neighborhood was #1 to us.

We have about 1550 sq. ft., with 2 bedrooms / 2.5 bathrooms, but it's just us and our puppy. With no little ones it feels like plenty of space, but I'd like to have more like 2000 sq. ft. and at least 3 bedrooms when we have a baby. DH & I grew up in larger homes so that's what we're used to. I'd like to have a room for our LO as well as a guest room.

@sorrycharlie: I kinda feel that way about our current place- even though if we bought a house we'd want it substantially bigger!!
That's one reason I kind of liked the apartments we looked at today.

@photojane: THIS. I wish our place was smaller. I hate cleaning!

I don't know the square footage, but we rent the other half of the ILs duplex. So we get a killer, killer deal..thus, why we don't own or live anywhere else, even though there are cons here.

The duplex is two stories...upstairs, 3 bed and 1 bath (that used to be a full sized bedroom..its ridiculously huge). downstairs is a full size kitchen, dining, living, 1/2 bath. It's enormous, but I wish it were a little smaller..it's a pain to keep clean. Definitely large enough if we had 2 kids though!

Ours is about 1800 sq ft, 3 br 2 ba. It's a pretty good size for us, but since it's a very old house it's quirky, and I don't love the layout because it feels like there is a lot of wasted space!

We just sold our 1300 sq foot condo and are moving into a 1400 sq ft apartment. Our new apartment seems much bigger because there are floor to ceiling windows all around, the kitchen is open, and the living room is much bigger. In our condo, the living room was small but the bedrooms were huge, which seemed like a big waste of space. So yeah, i think it depends more on the layout!

Ours is 1000 sq feet with 2 bed 1.5 bath. It has been perfect, but will be getting tight as we continue to prepare for baby. We will make it work for us though.

1600 3 bed, 2.5 bath but it feels much smaller because the first floor is a finished basement that is just one big room, so all the rooms upstairs are small.

it is a good size for our little family, but i wish the square footage was divided differently. our last apt was the exact same size, and # of rooms, but felt much, much bigger.

No idea in terms of square feet, but it's got 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths, which turned out to be a lifesaver!

1200 sq feet, 2 bedroom 2 bath and I think it plenty big for us and an LO. We hardly touch the guest bed/bath. Now fitting a full nursery in there with the guest bed (queen) will be interesting but perfectly plausible.

450sq feet, 1 bed/1bath. It's great for the two of us and will have to be great for the 3 of us as well once LO arrives and for the next 5 months until we move.

our old place was 1300 sq ft, 2 br, 1 ba, and it was plenty big for 2 ppl & a baby (if we had one, lol). where we are now is 900 sq ft (we moved because this is a much nicer unit), 2 br, 1 ba, and honestly it would be fine for us with 1 baby- there are ppl in our building with 2 kids in their apts, but it would be a bit cramped.

i think a lot of it depends on how well designed the space it. we have crap for closets, we couldn't fit a pack'n'play in our br in addition to our furniture and our kitchen is too small, but we have a very large living room/dining room, so there is sq footage in our unit that were it redistributed, could make for a space more conducive to living with a LO.

We live in a 924 sq feet 2 bed/2 bath apartment. Before TTC we wanted to upgrade to a 3 bed but finances got tight so we stayed. So we had to figure out how to make do with what we have. Our second bedroom is an office so we would move the office into our living room and then that will be the nursery.

it's not an apartment, but we're in 1000 sq ft right now (2br, 1 bath), and it'll be perfect for us even when baby arrives. i'll be real honest here -- i'm super lazy. i hate to clean. one of my main criteria in a home was: "JUST as big as we need, no wasted space."

We are about 1500 square feet, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom. It's great for us. I think it would be fine for 1 child, but we will be buying a home this fall either in our current home or in a new city if DH gets transferred. Hoping to stay here as house prices are extremely reasonable and it would be a great area to raise kids.

We have to move out of our current place by nov so we're looking at places now. Our current place is 1500sq ft, 3 bed and 2.5 baths which is AWESOME and more than we could normally afford- we got a great deal

We looked at a duplex style apt today which is 850 sq ft, 2 beds 1 bath. It is so much smaller than we're used to.

How big is your place? Do you feel it's big enough for a baby?
