Also, I'm posting this separately since it's an entirely separate thought, but might be helpful to others:

My sister also has two girls, 22 months apart. However, they're now 14 and 12. She saved the items that were the "nicest" back then and has given them to me. While they're still great brands in great shape, they include a lot of short tops, wide leg/bell bottom pants, belled sleeves, etc. Only very classic things like little Lands' End jumpers really still get worn very often. You'd be surprised how "out of style" clothing for kids from Gap, Gymboree, or even more classic brands like Hanna Andersson, can become in even just 4-5 years.

I keep reminding myself of this, and will be selling off some big lots of things like Baby Gap skinny jeans as soon as my youngest girl outgrows them. No matter how cute they are now, I feel like even someone looking at them a few years from now is likely to think "whaaaaaat was this?!?" :)

I have two daughters 22 months apart, and with my first, I saved pretty much everything (she's about to be four). When it's time for DD2 to go into a size, I go through the vacuum bag and try to pull out anything that is not really my/her style or we have "too much" of, etc., and I sell it on eBay (nicer brands) or in a big grab bag (Carter's, Target, etc.).

Just in the past year, as others have said, with her going to preschool and doing more independently, I'm finding that more of her everyday basics like leggings & basic tees, are a bit more worn , faded, or lightly stained than I'd really like to keep for DD2. These items I am trying to prune out before I put away a size - I either sell them (for like $5/$10 for a big bag) or give them away as "play clothes" on our parenting listserv. I keep a few of the cuter but worn sets to send to school with DD2 as extra clothes or let her wear while playing in the yard.

We have one more baby on the way, and I can't wait to find out if it's a boy or a girl so I can go through the MOUNTAINS of clothes we have for once and for all! If it's a boy I'll save only the most sentimental things from my girls and move the rest on its way.

I think that unless your LO has a big wardrobe, you will reach a point where you can't save or sell the bulk of the "everyday" clothes, or even donate them, because they're in shreds! For us, that started happening at size 4T. My son isn't unusually careless, but his clothes mostly aren't worth saving at this point. I'd keep the baby stuff if you aren't sure about another.

I think it has more to do with whether or not you want more kids than the size of the clothes. I saved everything and now that I'm expecting our third, sorting it all and only keeping my favorites and things in very good condition. Once we have the baby I plan to get rid of everything as it stops fitting or gets stained. If we have a girl I will get rid of all the boy clothes too small for LO2.

I have a 2.5 year old boy, and a girl arriving in August. And we are done at two kids. I saved all of DS's stuff, so I've been going through them and pulling out anything gender neutral. Anything else will be given away. And going forward I'm not going to save anything except may be jeans.

As DS has gotten older his clothes get a lot more wear and tear and stains. If we were having another boy I'd start being much more choosey about what to save.

I'm keeping everything until I know what I'm having. After that, I have a friend who's daughter is six months younger than H but is wearing a similar size, so I'll give those clothes to her if she wants them.

Two boys and still saving big boy's clothes. I have a pile of 3-6 month clothes in J's closet since I don't know what I'm going to do with those. We're heading into the 12 month clothes soon. J's been able to wear most of E's clothes.

T is only 13 mo but I imagine I'll save everything in good condition for several years- then just save favorites or investment pieces.

Right now I do a fair amount of donating/consignment when she grows out of sizes since the amount of clothing she has is overwhelming to me.

Two boys and still saving anything that's in good condition! Donating the rest!

My baby pile for future baby 3 is pretty small now though.

I have two girls so I save everything. As my second daughter outgrows it, I save very special outfits (usually one or two per size) to pack away and I donate/throw out the rest. I'm finding that after two kids the clothes have really taken a beating. On the off chance that we have a third I would just buy new stuff.

If you are unsure about having a 3rd, I'd save the clothing. We are done once #2 arrives and I've saved everything from his big bro. I'll save the clothing in good condition to pass along to a friend having a boy, I'll maybe sell the nicer stuff, or donate!

I have two boys so far, and save everything. The older one is in 4-5t and still saving. I imagine I'll keep saving until the little one starts having a preference.

Similar to @Adira: I have two girls so I'm saving everything from the older one for the baby. We are probably but not definitely done after this, but I have two sisters who will probably have kids in the future, so I pack up what the baby outgrows and save for them. But I'm trying to be better about tossing things that are really worn out.

I have three of a kind. All born in the same season. I've saved everything in wearable condition.

I imagine at some point these girls will get particular about who wears what. I'm finding that my three year old is hard on her clothes so I'm not sure how much I'll be able to save from her current wardrobe. My third is quickly catching up to my second so they may be sharing a wardrobe in a few months.

I have one of each and we are done. I save some of the older one's more unisex clothing and shoes for the younger one, but I mostly donate or sell. The older one tends to destroy most of his clothes though, so there isn't much worth hanging on to.

If you save baby clothes for future kids, what age/size do you stop? I realized I am still putting girl clothes away for my 2 1/2 year old when I currently have a 4 mo old boy... not like he is ever going to wear them! But I am still saving both their clothes just incase we agree to have a third.

So, what age would you stop saving clothes? She is in 4T/5T and I just put away all her 3T stuff. But I'm wondering if I should just sell it all and stop saving. Thoughts?
