I try and make it a point to chat and be pleasant, make eye contact and smile at people. I love forming relationships with people, like the woman who works at the convenience store I always go to or the workers at the post office. It's one of those things that even though it is focused on other people, it really makes your life so much better! This actually reminds me of our first time visiting the south... we went to Texas for a wedding (DFW area) and even the cashier at CVS was SO nice and chatty and sweet. We were totally taken off-guard and probably seemed really cold to them, but the entire way back to the hotel we were talking about HOW NICE everyone was. The rest of the trip we spent chatting with waiters, cab drivers, strangers.... people in the south are just so nice.
