We try to bring the item outside if at all possible, but with our couch and dresser it wasn't an option. For those items, we moved them as close to the entryway as possible and I stood in the front doorway with the door wide open while DH walked the buyer to the item. I could see them clearly the whole time. I also keep pepper spray in my pocket just in case. Buying is a little more risky since you don't have control over the environment, but I at least always make sure DH is with me and someone else knows what we're doing. If it were something they needed to use electricity to check out, i would have an extension cord. that being said, i've gone inside people's homes when buying stuff of CL. We've sold a fridge, a dryer, and given away a broken treadmill and an old couch, and haven't had any problems. I've also bought several things that I've had to pick up from people and I've always gone to their houses. Only once without DH, but only after googling the crap out of the address and the guy (he was a math teacher at our local middle school, so I felt safe going there). I would never go through with a sale if the person gave me a creepy feeling, though. We live in the state where the "Craigslist Killer" was, and I have several family members who are police/detectives who worked on the case, so that really creeped me out! He wants to always meet at a public place. He doesn't feel comfortable with people coming to our house. Dh's best's wife sells/buys on Craig's List ALL THE TIME and she has had buyers come to their house and has gone to other sellers' homes with no problems. I also try to meet them after work hours when my husband is home. And, if I'm buying something, I always text my husband the location and time of where I'm meeting the seller. I've gone to others houses but only once did someone come to my house and it was someone I was buying from. I was staying with some friends, so I made sure they were home. Only one time did someone come to our house to buy a couch. It was a girl, so I wasn't worried. I'm selling a PS3 and I have an interested buyer who of course wants to see how it works. So in order for him/her to see how it works, they've got to come to my house to check it out. Of course my husband will have to be home for me to let them come. Have you guys ever had any issues having buyers come to your home? Or do you always meet in public?
