However, the woman who taught the extinction video I watch said to turn it off and put it away. It just makes it harder on you. It only really took a night or two in our case though, so it was very short-lived. Our daughter was pretty easy going, so other babies are probably more spirited. At the time he was 4.5 months and we only did it for the putting him to sleep. He didn't have trouble staying asleep, just had issues with falling asleep (it would take us over an hour to get him to sleep). He still woke up once a night to feed and we allowed for that until about 8 months. We were also planning on doing CIO with our second son, but at 3 months he started sleeping 5-6 hours per night with just one wake up so we didn't have to do anything. Also, we are terrible at sleep training and our kid still struggles with sleep. So don't listen to me. Next time I will give the kid a little more space to work it out- we intervened at the tiniest peep from the start, and it it was unnecessary. I liked the sleep lady shuffle, and it helped us go from co-bedding/her being latched on my boob constantly to her sleeping in a crib in our room, and being able to put herself to sleep or stay asleep through a transfer. Now I know he will sometimes yell once then pass out. But it was great! First bedtime and nap time he went into his crib happy and babbles himself to sleep it felt like we won the lotto. It truly felt like we we were working together so he could learn to fall asleep on his own. Let me know if you have any questions. I think it was a progression - we did No Cry Sleep Solution, then Sleep Lady. He got better but still didn't sleep more than 3 hours straight, so we did extinction and it took 7 minutes on night 1, and it just clicked from there. I don't think it would have had we not done the other two first.
