We had a kind of different experience in that once we sleep trained for bedtime/going to sleep (at 4mo), he was always able to put himself to sleep at naps (with a few very rare exceptions.) We use a lovey and the same exact routine for bedtime and naps, so I think that helped! Have you tried a lovey?

(Staying asleep for more than a sleep cycle, however, we were never able to "nap train" on - that came more naturally and consistently around 8-9mo.)

I always gave a bottle before naps until we weaned from the bottle at 14m. So I guess actually we nap trained then?!

After we sleep trained for bedtime only, we continued to hold LO for all naps for about another month or so. I then "nap trained" but it was pretty uneventful because I think by then he knew how to fall asleep. I did let him CIO a few times but it wasn't as horrible as I was expecting, thankfully.

We sleep trained at 6 months, then a few weeks later I just tried the crib and he went right to sleep just like nighttime.

We sleep trained DD at 16 weeks. We tried nap training 4 or 5 times starting about a month after that and it never took.

We chickened out for so long that eventually my son sleep trained himself for naps. He was fine on bedtime but we'd rock him to sleep for naps, and then one day he just pointed at his crib and we thought "Hmmm....this will never work" but we put him in there and he just went right to sleep.

If you sleep-trained for bedtime first and waited on naps until later, when did you decide to implement sleep training for naps? Did you wait until bedtimes were pretty solid, or something else? What was the interval between starting sleep-training for bedtime and then naps?

DS is almost 6mo and we started sleep training about a week and a half ago. The past two nights have been awesome- only a few minutes of crying when I put him down and then dream feed and then he wakes around 6:30am and I had a thought as I was just putting him down, "Hm! Maybe I'll start sleep training for naps! Right now! But then chickened out and gave him the paci.
