I never followed it. DS only took 30 minute naps so whenever he actually fell asleep I let him. He just ate when hungry and slept when tired - no real "schedule" at all.

we haven't at almost a year! at 3.5 months, i didn't wake her to eat during the day anymore because i thought it stretched out to 3.5-4 hours by then and DD never got that far out! even still, it wasn't about the time for me as more often, she woke up early and it was only 1.75 hours between feedings during the day!

@Foodnerd81: thanks. I'm going to start feeding her before naps, hopefully that will mean lots of extra feeds per day and more weight gain!

@lawbee11: we have the same issue. It's so hard for me to know when she's really done with each boob now because she pops off to smile at me all the time!

Probably around 3.5 months. I started nursing her before naps because she's so distracted when she's nursing and does much better when she's sleepy. If I nursed her when she woke she constantly popped off to check everything out!

Around the same age that your LO was, I noticed that she would nap longer if I nursed her before her nap. So I started doing that. Honestly, she really didn't seem to get a "sleep association" with it and it worked better for us. So that was the end of EASY for us.

I think around 6 months? His naps were really crappy before that point and so I felt like I was constantly feeding him when he woke up, because he only napped like 35 min. Then I started feeding him before naps because I was worried about weight gain, so by 7 months we had given up on it completely.

@illumina: I never wake her to eat, but she has always been VERY vocal letting me know she was hungry. For a while I pretty much did EAES, but then again, I was nursing to sleep so obviously that wasn't following the 'rules' anyway. Now that she is consistently napping at all, I don't follow it so carefully, more like I keep an eye on the time and know she will be hungry about every 3 hours, will be awake for 1-2 hours, and will probably (hopefully) nap for 1-2 hours. If it's getting close to nap time and I know she will be hungry (ie close to 3 hours from last feeding) before I want her to wake, I feed her before nap. That means sometimes I feed her at 2.5 hours. Lately it all has actually shaken out to a 3 hour routine but that is based on her, not the book.

I don't think there is a problem with feeding right before nap, just make sure to break it up with a book or two, burping, etc, before putting her down.

We stopped pretty early. By 3 months, Xander was consistently eating every 3 hours, but his naps were all over the place. So I just fed him every 3 hours and put him down for a nap whenever I thought was necessary.

Never, we pretty much kept to the guidelines until my son dropped his second nap at 20 months.

We stopped with the strict E.A.S.Y when LO began to consolidate her naps. She used to take frequent 30-45 min naps, and E.A.S.Y. worked well, but now she naps for longer periods of time (roughly on a 2-3-4 schedule) and she still eats every 3 hours. I just make sure the she is not eating then immediately going down for a nap, and it has worked well for us.

@illumina: Aaw, bless her! E went through an "eating's cheating" phase - she just got so distracted by everything, I think - but we're definitely out the other side of that now thank goodness.

I think the big no-no as far as EASY goes is feeding the baby to sleep, so that feeding becomes a sleep crutch. I think you'll be fine with what you have suggested, because she will have awake time between her feed and her nap..... try it and see because you can always try something else if it doesn't work as you'd hoped.

@Cherrybee: The problem we have is she won't demand food, nor will she wake when she's hungry...in the afternoon from about 3pm she'll nap for 3+hrs if I didn't wake her (I don't know if she thought that was the start of the night or what!) which I let her do a few times because I thought she must have been really tired and needed the sleep. After her weight gained slowed and then she started losing weight I now need to feed her every 3-4hrs round the clock (I aim for 3 during the day and 4 at night).

I gave up with EASY pretty early on because E would only take half hour naps - and she needed them after an hour of awake time. So it was more like EASASEASAS and I never got round to the Y bit!!

By three months I had also given up sticking to her three hour feeding schedule. On the rare occasion she takes more than a half hour nap, I just wait for her to wake up and demand food!

In short, I feed her when she's hungry, I put her down to nap when she's tired, I get her when she wakes up and I rarely even look at the clock any more!!

S is 3.5mths and I think we need to mix it up a bit. It started off great, but lately as her awake time is increasing it means she only gets to nap for 1-1.5hrs before I have to wake her up so we can stick to our 3hr feeding routine.

I'm thinking we need to maybe add a feed in before she goes down for a nap, but so that we still separate feeding/sleep--it would be more like E.A.E.A.S.Y. Does this sound right? Am I just overthinking it? I like E.A.S.Y because it means all the burping/spit-up is out of the way so she's comfortable before being put down--so would feeding closer to naptime mess this up?
