At 38 weeks I was 5 cm dialated. I was so afraid of being an ambulance or side of the road story too. My water broke at 38+6 and I delivered at 39 weeks after 18 hours of labor and 1.5 hours of pushing. She was my first though, and I've heard 2nd babies come out faster. Do you live close to your hospital?

I'm just so curious about what my experience will be with #2! With DD I had no dilation until my water broke at 39 weeks 1 day. Was started immediately on picotin and labor was only 12 hours from water breaking to baby. Now with #2 and at my 36 week appointment I was 3 cm, 80% effaced and -1 station so who knows how this labor will pan out! Just don't want her to come too quick... don't want to be one of those back of an ambulance stories!

I had the opposite. Wasn't dilated at all at last OB appt. And then two days later a three hour labor.

I was at 2-3cm and 60-80% effaced the last two weeks of pregnancy. Didn't go into labor til 40w2d, didn't have Da until the following day and it was after a long labor and two hours of pushing.

For my first I was 1 cm and 60% effaced at 36 weeks....and then I had her (was induced) at 41 weeks. So...it wasn't much quicker. I know I went into my induction and I was only 3 cm.

Right now I'm 37 weeks and 1 cm, 50%. We'll see!

Yes, I think so. With my first, I was barely dilated to a 1 by 39 weeks. With my second, I was 2 cm at 37 weeks, 3 cm at 39 weeks, and 4-5 cm when I was admitted to L&D at 39w4d. My first labor was 17 hours total - second was just under 8 hours.

Did it lead to a "quicker" labor for you? Just curious about people's experiences!
