@krsmall: With Tylenol his temp is back to normal though he's a bit fussy and congested today. He's eating normally today though!

@Lozza: Thanks! I think that's what I'm leaning towards too. I don't think he'll have any crazy binge naps today though.

We were never much for scheduling anyhow, so we generally let LO sleep when and wherever he wanted. When I'm sick, I can pretty easily nap all day and still sleep at night, so my general feeling is that if he's sleeping that much, it's because he needs it :)

Poor little guy, I hope he feels better. Have you called your pediatrician? How is he eating? If he is not eating well, I'd probably call your pediatrician just to see what he says, I'm not sure there is anything they can really do but it never hurts to call.

I'm curious what others do so am bumping this thread!

After the a above happened, DS woke up at 6, was back asleep at 8 p.m. woke briefly at 9 and needed cuddles but then slept til 5 a.m. When he woke he had a fever, so we gave more Tylenol, then he ate and tried to go back to sleep but was very fussy. So I put him in his swing in our room in the dark and let him sleep there from 6-7:30. He was back down for a morning nap at 9 and slept til 10:40 (unheard of). It's almost 12 and I feel like he's ready for a nap again!

Well he felt warm to me while sleeping so I didn't feel right waking him up. At 5, I opened his bedroom door and made lots of noise.....at 5:45 I made more noise and turned on a light....at 6 I picked him up to wake him up. His temp was in fact elevated but he seemed in good spirits. But then it was higher at 7 p.m. so we gave him Tylenol and he'll be going to bed (hopefully shortly). He has a little cough and is congested so I'm assuming it's just my cold. First sickness for him! (He's 5 months on Wednesday).

I would wake him at 5 so you can get him back down for his normal bedtime. Is he feeling warm or just sniffly?

I usually wake my LO up at the latest by 7:30pm b/c he sleeps around 9:30-10pm. I know, late but he wakes up late too. We have late schedules around this house! He's currently going on 4 hours nap right now. He'll probably wake up soon b/c his big brother is so noisy!

Poor little fella! I would wake him up then just keep the next wake time a little shorter than usual and put him to bed for the night so he can get that long stretch of sleep. If he seems really tired you can put him to bed around 6:30-6:45? (Which might be now if you're on the east coast!)

@Sammyfab: Thx! He slept 2.5 this morning, .5 this afternoon and is almost at 1.5 hours for this nap....maybe I should wake him at 5 even though he might have a cold.

I would limit naps to 4.5 hours total MAX! I know they say sleep begets sleep but too much nap sleep can affect night sleep after a certain age!

As in, has a cold....do you wake him/her up from naps to stay on schedule?

My usually 30 minute napper took a 2.5 hour long nap this morning. He then took a 30 minute first afternoon nap....which made him ready for a second afternoon nap at 3:30. It is now 4:40 and he's still sleeping (unheard of). He usually goes to bed at 7 or 7:30 and his max awake time is 2 hours before bed. If it becomes 5 or 5:30, should I wake him up to stay on schedule for bed? He was in an OK mood today - he's just been a little congested and has not eaten as much as usual.
