It took me a really long time to get up to 2000 but my doctor told me that I really needed to if I wanted to get the most benefit. Do you take it right after eating? I tried upping to 1500 mg early on but I was so nauseous that I was dry heaving all day. I'm on the extended release (ER) version, so my OBGYN said it didn't matter if I took it all at once or split up the pills throughout the day. I take 1,000-1,500 (if I remember the third pill), and haven't had awful side effects. I take 1000mg in two doses a day (morning and evening). I take 1000 in the morning and 1000 at night. My GP started me off on 1500mg, but my RE felt that wasn't enough and increased it to 2000mg. He said he had seen very little success in women with PCOS and IR on less than 2000mg. I took it for 6 weeks while ttc and weaned off of it when I was 12 weeks pregnant. I really think the metformin combined with a low glycemic index diet helped me get pregnant. We'll hopefully be doing Clomid, Ovidrel, timed intercourse and Progesterone supplements in January. My endocrinologist upped it to 2500 mg/day due to my GD. I am now taking 2000 mg/day on the advice of my endocrinologist.</p> <p>ETA- it's always been split throughout the day.
