I would MUCH prefer to have an OK looking shoe rack in the closet-- keep it all tucked away, but by the front door, along with our coats. However, he insists that the cable box and other TV stuff be stored in there and wired through the wall to the mounted TV-- apparently, it's SO 2011 to have the cable box show next to the TV??-- so that, along with luggage that we have nowhere else to store, leaves the space pretty tight. It's still an option, but I'm exploring other ideas to make peace :) </p> <p>@nana87: I had the cheapest Ikea shoe cabinet (plastic, treva or something like that) and totally over stuffed it with too many shoes, in my old apartments and the thing fell apart-- my fault-- it was super cheap plastic with way too much weight-- but I think of them as always falling apart. We are planning to have a no shoe policy for our new apartment-- with baby, I'd rather not wear shoes in the house plus less cleaning. So it only makes sense to store our frequently worn shoes by the front door, but it looks kind of college-like to just have the open shoe rack *right* there. How do you store them? I also really want to add a chair or bench so you can sit down to remove your shoes, especially in the winter months when it's boots and ties and such. </p> <p>I think we need a professional organizer/decorator. Also, it's a rental that we plan to live in for at least two years, so built ins are probably out. </p>
