Clomid shortened my cycle by 2-3 days, but lengthened the luteal phase. I ovulated on CD 15, as opposed to my usual CD 18-19.

My RE explained that taking Clomid upped the chances of getting pregnant b/c there's likely to be more than one egg released. I'm glad they monitored me b/c that's how they knew it thinned out my uterine lining.

@savanarunner: Sometimes the different days are for what you want the drug to do to the eggs. If you just want to create a lot, then you would start earlier. Later days means you'll have one bigger more mature egg. I'm not 100% sure, but that is what I've read. Some people will say it doesn't matter when you take the drugs.

I'm on femara and take it CD 3-7 and think I O on CD 14. I didn't temp or do monitoring last cycle so I can't be sure but I had a 28 day cycle. Anyone know the reasoning for some taking it on CD 3-7 and others 5-9?

I O'd late all three months I took Clomid. I took 50mg CD5-9 and O'd on CD 18 twice and CD 17 once. (According to charting and OPKs). Prior to taking Clomid, I was Oing CD 13-14. Clomid didn't work for me, but I hope it helps you @pui!

@pui: so frustrating, right? Actually, we've had sort of similar paths, because when I first did my testing last October I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and put on Synthroid. I was hoping that would do the trick, but no dice. Clomid is supposed to lengthen your LP by creating a stronger O which releases more progesterone (or something like that). They have me on progesterone suppositories this cycle too, though.

@Shutterbug: Does Clomid help lengthen LP? I haven't heard that yet!

Also that is like me. All of my tests have come back normal so they just stuck me on Clomid because I am not Oing.

@runnerd: yup, @pui: is right - it's to make me ovulate stronger, and also to lengthen my LP, which unmedicated is about 8-9 days. Also, it's sort of a first step that most REs will take if you have been TTC for a year with no luck - all of our tests came back normal, so we technically have Unexplained Infertility.

Without Clomid: CD 18-20
With Clomid: CD 19 (first cycle), CD 17 (2nd and 3rd cycles) BUT I don't think I'm really responding to it. During this monitored cycle I had one mature egg, and I O on my own.

If you have ever used Clomid, what cycle days did you take the pills and what cycle day did you O? Did you O earlier or later than you expected?

I took the pills CD5-CD9 and was told I was supposed to O CD14. I had a positive OPK on CD10 and a very positive one CD11, so it looks like I will O today (CD12) or tomorrow (CD13).
