@FaithFertility: my DD had this same issue and I was really stressed about it up until I went back to work at the 6 month mark. She was due to start a nanny share and was just not interested in bottles in spite if my best efforts. I ended up buying a nuk soft spout sippy cup and she was willing to drink milk from it so we went with that. Something will work out, it always does!

Thank you everyone, for weighing in. I feel a lot better! I was terrified he'd be confused and scared. I'm hoping it goes really well. I will definitely update next week!

He is a very social baby, so I'm thinking he'll do well. He gets bored easily and loves to be out running errands, or around a lot of people. I think he'll love being surrounded by other babies to watch!

We transitioned to daycare at 9.5 months. Honestly? It was very, very rough. She was the worst case our daycare had ever seen and the director has been there for like 15+ years. So, I would not use our situation as an example. She only went 2 days per week (we switched to 3 days eventually to accelerate the process) and I think if she went full-time it would have been easier. And she just really struggles with separation anxiety more so than the average kid.

All that to say? It was terrible BUT we got through it and now she does great at school! We still have some hard drop-offs but her teachers always send pictures of her having fun. Part of me knows that she is not a daycare-loving kid like others, but she has still thrived and is a happy, healthy, totally well adjusted kid, so even in a situation where it's not perfect, it's still totally okay, if that makes sense. So even if you have the worst case scenario - which I pray you don't and it's very unlikely that you will - it will be completely fine.

We are planning to start Lo at daycare when they are 5-6 months old and I was wondering about the transition at that age. Glad to hear that the babies adjust well.

My kids started at 5 and 6 months and it was relatively smooth after the first week or so. Their transitions to new rooms at 18 months and 3 year were actually much harder, so I wouldn't worry.

@plantains: That makes me feel good!
I am working on getting DD to take a bottle again she used to but no more, that is my main concern... starting daycare and not taking a bottle yet

Don't worry! This is such a good age to start daycare. The first couple if days might be tough but it really is harder on is parents than the babies!

My LO started daycare at 5 1/2 months and had a whiney first week but was otherwise ok. Then we had a nanny for a while because he was getting so sick and switched back to day care at 18 months. Starting at 18 months was WAY worse. He sobbed all day for 2 weeks. Even so, he was OK. He was safe and after the first 2 weeks he loved it. He bonded with his teacher and LOVES her. Now he runs away from me when I go to pick him up because he wants to stay! Silly boy.

LO transitioned to daycare at 6 months and did great! She was so happy with her teachers and friends. She didn't nap great the first few weeks, but then figured it out.

On the other hand, I was an emotional mess.

how did it go?

Our beloved babysitter isn't able to watch our LO anymore so we are putting him in daycare. He is almost 8 months old. We are in the thick of separation anxiety and I am so nervous about him going somewhere where he doesn't know anyone :(

Talk me off the ledge! I know he'll be ok after a couple days, I'm just scared of the unknown. I hope he isn't scared and confused. If you transitioned around a similar age, how did your LO do? I'm also scared about his naps in such a loud/bright room!! We are going to visit twice before he starts full time on Monday.
