The lactation consultant told me to always use the newborn flow as long as I was breastfeeding. Since it more closely mimicked the pace of breastfeeding. That being said, when I bought the 9 oz bottles they came with size 2, so we did use those sometimes. But I tried to use size 1 as often as possible.

I didn't go by their month indicators at all! All I knew was that when feedings suddenly got longer and he had a hard time getting anything out it was time for the next level up. If I moved up too early, it would dribble down his chin and he'd choke on the milk/formula.

We got stage 2 nipples when daycare asked us to send faster ones, but never switched after that.

I was told to use the slowest flow for as long as possible to pace feedings. I don't think you have to follow their stages. I didn't switch to 2 or 3 until he started getting distracted during feeds and it was taking a ridiculously long time for him to eat.

I mix and match when I make the bottles from the drying rack! Is that terrible? I just don't even pay attention to the numbers! He is 6 months old but I've never noticed a difference in terms of his gas or burps or anything. I am planning to retire the little bottles for good this weekend since he takes 6 ounces now and I can't squeeze them in the little ones anymore.

Do you follow their nipple stages? DD is 2 months and still on the nb nipples that come with the bottle. I'm wondering if I should already be going up a stage for her since I think the next stage is for 1+ months. I *think* my milk flow kinda slow... I def do not have a fast letdown. Or should I just get he 3+ stage since she is already 2 mo?
