I hate the feeling of using pads, and have used tampons since I got my period at 16. I just use the regular Tampax brand, but as a teen I liked Playtex.

Another vote for OB. I used to use tampax, but when I lived abroad they ONLY kind they sold in the pharmacy was OB, and, to be honest, they were WAY better than the tampax. I also like how little packaging waste there is.

I only use Tampax Pearls. Hate pads!!! My flow is waaaay too heavy for pads. I'd have tons of embarrassing leaks (I always did in Jr high, before my mom let me wear tampons :( ) The longest I wear them is about 10 hours (overnight, if I go to bed too early!)

I've used Playtex for 6 years or so. Can't stand pads. Feels like a diaper and I feel VERY self conscious. I wear them 2-6 hours (depending on flow) and overnight. I do worry a tiny bit about TSS because I know of someone that was hospitalized and almost died because of it, but I feel that I'm responsible and careful.

Also, I tried Tampax a couple times and hated it because they expand only one way and it felt uncomfortable. Playtex expands all around so it forms around me better, making it A LOT more comfortable.

@Mrsbells: Yup, it's made out of silicone, I think? It's flexible, so you bend and fold it for insertion.

I didn't want to admit this, at first, but I actually use cloth menstral pads now. Sometimes I just don't want worry about leaking tampons or diva cups. Plus, I feel much 'greener' about not throwing away pads and pantyliners. I bought cloth pads from 'Party in my Pants' and Lunapads. If I get sick of the pads, I can go for tampons or diva cup. This thread kinda makes me miss using my diva cup. It's so nice being able to forget about it for a whole 12 hours.

I use OB and Tampax Pearl. My heart wants OB because no applicator means less waste but my body prefers Tampax Pearl because of the applicator.

I guess the longest is over night. I don't worry about TSS. I just make sure to choose the right absorbency.

I've tried the Diva Cup and failed. Miserably. At work! I want to try again but I'm scared.

I didn't start using tampons until after college. And once I started using them I wondered why I didn't start earlier. I can't ever go back. When I was post-partum and had to use pads only I felt so gross. Blech. I felt like I was oozing.

Tampons or my Lunette! But I was a scaredy cat too- didn't start using tampons until I was 21, after my first baby was born and I was a little more comfortable and a little less scared of my body, lol.
And I was still working on getting used to the Lunette when I got pregnant, but I'm pretty sure I like it. ;)

When I used them, I'd use Tampax Pearls and be sure to swap by the 8 hour suggestion (or right before bed through waking up, I wasn't getting up for that nonsense). However, I usually just replaced any time I used the restroom.

Then I bought a Lunette cup (like a smaller Diva Cup) and I LOVED it for the 2 or 3 months I had it prior to getting pregnant. My sister bought one and found it fabulous for dealing with her cycle while doing her military training. I gave mine a "test run" over the weekend and was comfortable enough by Monday to wear it to work. Every 12+ hours is much more convenient.

I use whatever is one sale or looks pretty. I change them every time I pee, however long that is, including overnight. I never used pads, went straight to tampons rigth from the get go. Using pads PP was the WORST!!! It is one of the things I'm dreading the most right now. Seriously.

I have used OB since high school. You can easily hide them in the pocket of your jeans and I hate the notion of plastic applicator waste. There is a slight learning curve to using them, but once you've tried 2-3 times, it's easy.

@MrsBells: I use the smallest of the small sized tampons. Look at your pinky finger--that's what I use. The string is shorter due to the size, and I can tell you that it can be easy to forget about.

@Looch--go for the Diva Cup! But trust your gut on the sizing. I knew I should have gotten the smaller one, but went with their recommendation instead and regretted it.

Thanks everyone.. to be honest it was struggle for me to even get the tampon in because I was so freaked out by it, so I dont think i'll survive the diva cup.. maybe in the future when I have more courage. I wonder though how people can forget a tampon in, when the string is hanging out, also another weird thing is when you pee doesnt it get on the string?

@Happygal: The sizing is weird, I struggled with that. I am 30, but haven't been pregnant (yet)....and I went with the smaller style even though their site says to order the bigger version if you're 30+. I was nervous it wouldn't work (I like to get nervous about silly things), but it's worked so far!

U by Kotex. I've always had a heavy flow (sorry) so I don't get to leave them in long anyway so I'm not worried about TSS. I like tampons so much better than pads. You can't feel them and you don't feel wet until they are completely full.

Oh my god I hate pads and haven't worn them since I was 12. I just buy tampax and switch between cardboard and plastic. I need the super heavy ones the first few days. I have such a heavy flow I usually change it every few hours but I sleep with one too (only get 6 hrs a night) and I've never been scared of TSS. Except for once I couldn't remember if I put one in or not (that was when I was sleep deprived and DD was like 2 months old)

@Mrsbells: I was so freaked out by it when I saw how big it is. It's actually really easy. There are several ways you can fold it, and it basically unfolds on its own as you insert it (this sounds so graphic - ha!). Before I ordered mine, I did a lot of research (I'm a big nerd), and read quite a few reviews and tricks and tips.

@looch: I got lucky the first month I used mine, and AF started on a Saturday morning. The first day, I didn't trust the cup at all, day 2 was a little better, and by day 3 I was cruisin' along and felt fine using it at work. You also don't need to change it nearly as often (I stick to emptying it every 12 hrs), so the whole "How do I empty it/clean it in a public restroom" scenario doesn't come into play too much.

I use a Moon Cup most of the time, but if I use tampons, I do Tampax Pearl, and I will wear them up to 8 hours. Most cases of TSS (which is rare!) are caused by women totally forgetting about the tampons and leaving them in for days.
