It actually makes me NOT want to use "in memorium" names again. I don't want to have a whole family named after dead loved ones.... Seems grim. For DS2 we considered using my great uncle's name but were mostly set on a totally unrelated name with my maiden name as his middle name. I just was never 100% decided because it just didn't feel special or like it has a lot of meaning to it. When he was born we just decided to name him after his other great grandfather and a middle name similar to DH. His other three grandparents are still alive, so this was a pretty obvious choice. I have no idea how we might name a second child. There is no other obvious choice. I like family names for middle names. E's middle name was my grandmother's name. DH was raised Jewish so he requested that we not use the first names of living relatives. With that said, R's middle name is my grandmother's middle name. It's also a nickname for DH's grandmother's name. If we had or have a boy, his middle name would've been or will be my uncle's first name. My uncle passed away 15 years ago. If our next LO is a girl, I'm playing with the idea of combining our mothers' middle names for her middle name. I feel like the second might feel less important when they get older if they weren't named after a family member when our oldest was.
