We actually stay at a hotel instead of with MIL since her house is extremely unsafe for a toddler or baby.

@travelgirl1: that is terrifying. Even though my daughter never gets out of bed, it only takes once.

Mil volunteered to move the chest out of the room and we are bringing a doorknob cover.

If it's somewhere we go to regularly, I would ask them if DH could fix large pieces of furniture to the wall. Otherwise, I would just sleep in the same room as the LOs to keep an eye on them.
DD almost tipped the only chest of drawers that we don't have secured to the wall over onto herself last week. Luckily DH was right there and caught it, but it has really heightened fear of this.

@yellowbird: not really. The only thing that would worry me is stairs, but at my parents house they finished out their whole basement so LO can't mistakenly fall downstairs since we're on the lowest level!

We asked my ils to childproof a room for us. lo sleeps in a big bed there. fortunately there is no tipable furniture in there. we put a childproof handle cover on the inside so at we know he wont be wandering the rest of the house and we sleep in the room directly across the hall so we can hear him easily if he wakes up.

My parents' home is not baby proofed at all and when we travel there I bring my entire Motorola video cam set, both cameras, so I can watch them. I would do that so you can know if she gets up.

@Truth Bombs: do you worry about furniture or other dangers?

Dd is actually a great sleeper and never gets out of bed at night (only to pee and she gets herself back in.) but I worry about it anyway.

We bought a shrunks blow up toddler bed. But LO doesn't get off it. If she wakes up she just sits up and cries for us.

Following because I don't have any advice, but we are in the same boat. She usually sleeps in a PNP in the same room as us, but she recently climbed out of her PNP and I don't know what to do.

Where does your toddler sleep? I'm super paranoid that some piece of furniture will tip over on her if she gets out of bed? But last time we traveled she climbed out of her pack and play for the first time ever. I guess she will be sleeping in a big bed. I was thinking about sleeping in there with her but I have no idea if that would work as she has always slept alone in her room.

What would you do?
