@Alivoo01: Same! Third grade is when I got my contacts and can’t remember the last time I bought or used drops. I have dailies though which helps immediately with any discomfort.

@Miss Ariel: Haha, love this. I went back to Opti-Free. My eyes can be on and off. Unsure what caused any issues but I don't think it was cleaning solution. Weird!

@Miss Ariel: haha! I saw this pop up in my email and was like Whoa....I am so glad that it is working for you! I have to update my preferred eye drop of choice though to either just pure saline or BioTrue which was recommended to me last year and is also fantastic for us sensitive folks. Have a great day! haha

@LindsayInNY: @April_Showers: I know this thread is practically 10 years old, but I’m bumping it to say thank you!! For months I was having issues with my eyes. I brands, didn’t wear contacts for weeks at a time,.... but every time I’d put a new pair in my eyes would get read again.

On a whim I searched the boards and discovered this thread. Based on this advice I switched to ClearCare solution and my eyes are back to normal without issue.

So thank you! And maybe someone else will find this thread in another 10 years. :silly:

@April_Showers - Thanks! I'll have to check that out.

@ValentineMommy - I'm the same - I put them in around 5:45 a.m. and usually don't take them out until 8:30 p.m.? I wore hard lenses for almost 10 years (since my RX was so high) before switching to soft ones.

I wear contacts for the entire day (from when I wake up until I go to bed), and rarely, if ever, do I put drops in.

I should also note, I have an extremely high prescription (-11 in both eyes), so my contacts are way thicker than most. If I find my eyes are getting dry during the day, I actually use a gel (gross I know) at night when I'm sleeping. This makes your eyes much more moist in the long term, rather than the short term drops.

@LindsayInNYC: I use Aosept/Clear Care (they are the same brand). I don't follow all the crazy directions though. I just put them in the case and go. Then if I feel like I need more I drop in a Unizyme Enzymatic Lens Cleaner tablet (usually after I have been crying). It just gives an added boost to the disinfectant.

When I wore contacts I could only wear them for a few hours a day until they became uncomfortable.

I had LASIK this summer and now my eyes are incredibly dry when I wake up in the morning (though it's slowly been getting better) so I need to put drops in first thing. Still better than having to wear glasses though!!

@April_Showers - I think I'm going to give that a shot. Can't hurt to try at this point! What brand do you use? I have eczema that keeps flaring up and I think that's the best issue right now (it's affecting the skin around my eyes - mostly inner corners of my eyes). I stopped using any eyeshadow and it seemed to help a little. So frustrating though!

@LindsayInNYC: It can be really frustrating. I think I lucked out with an amazing eye doctor. My PA/PCP were both frustrating when it came to my skin though. But when I started having issues it was really easy to spot what it could be. I find that if they don't have to deal with it...then they really don't understand.

You may try using the bubbling cleaner (its really easy and it sounds like what your sister probably uses, but make sure you don't need your contacts for 8-10 hours because it BURNS if its not completely ready). They also have an add in that is supposed to help get rid of protien deposits better. Its like a little blue (or maybe its white...) pill that you drop in the case as well as the disc thing. I found it in the same area and it worked really well too.

For make up I find bare minerals is the best for not irrating my eyes. Mostly loose powders which take some getting used to. Though I have recently started using urban decay and my eyes do ok with it too, though not as well.

@April_Showers - My sister uses that same cleaner, I think - it's a funky little vertical case and she puts something in it (I clearly don't know much, LOL). I was having issues with my lenses clouding so I've been trying a protein remover drop which I think helps? I also don't know if I'm having a reaction to my eye makeup so I've been doing some elimination experiments with that too. I tried the eye doctor, allergist and dermatologist and no one seems to know exactly what the issue is. (Fail!)

@LindsayInNYC: At first it was toward the end of the month, and one of my eyes would turn bright red (think pink eye red and swollen). This happened every month for a few months and with a new pair of contacts it would resolve itself with in days (so we knew it wasn't pink eye). After a few months I went back to the eye doctor about it and he was quick to tell me. The chemicals in the "cleaners" build up on the actual lens and then once it got to a certain point I would get the allergic reaction. I can use the expensive cleaner with the disc that makes everything bubble.

ETA: I am very sensitive to a lot of chemicals on my skin and around my eyes too. I can't wear a lot of make-up brands because of it. I would also try changing up your eyeshadow/liner/mascera for more "natural" types and see if it helps too.

I never use re-wetting drops, but mainly because I'm too lazy and never carry them around! My eyes/contacts do tend to get really dry, especially towards the end of the night.

I only wear my contacts when I'm doing sports, like skiing or swimming or something outdoorsy where I don't want to wear my glasses. In those cases, I do need to continuously use the rewetting drops - often once an hour, depending on the activity! I recently had the unfortunately problem of letting one contact get so dry that it folded up on itself and hit behind my eyeball! It was soooooo uncomfortable and took forever to get out! Now I use the rewetting drops continually to ensure this doesn't happen to me again.

@autumnlove: When I first started wearing them I was not even given the option to have a pair of glasses. It was contacts or I couldn't see. My eye sight was deteriorating to fast with just glasses, and he did not want me to have a pair any more. So it could be...I don't know. I can always tell when they are starting to get a little old because they do start to dry out a little more than normal but a good cleaning usually helps that too.

You may try a different brand of drops or lenses. Some drops make my eyes feel worse. I like Complete Blink-N-Clean when I am in a pinch and miserable.

Nope. I was told to not use them unless I was miserable, or my contacts fell out. My eye doctor told me from day one, that your eyes don't get used to keeping them moist if you are constantly putting drops in. Now I wear the ones that I never have to take out and haven't had any problems with them being dry except for first thing in the morning after I have been wearing them too long. But they always seem to quickly adjust and rewet themselves with out drops.

ETA: I am also allergic to a lot of lens cleaners/re-wetting drops so even if I wanted to use them regularly I cant.

I can't wear them much any more because my eyes are too dry, but I think I'll try again when I'm done with my desk job! I feel like rewetting drops only help temporarily but in the long run my eyes don't stay moist on their own if I use drops. Making myself cry is the best solution!
