My brother actually got glasses a year before I did in th 6th grade. My mom has horrible vision (near sighted) and my dad now has worn bifocals for the past few years. I'm the only hold-out but I have better vision than all of them. My lenses are not coke-bottle thick. I got my better than perfect vision from my dad, who started wearing reading glasses when he turned 50. (Well, at least my mom did until middle age. Now she needs reading glasses.) My dad and my sister on the other hand both have horrendous vision. My dad got glasses when he was 2. My sister got them when she was 7. They both have lazy eyes. My sister has astigmatism too. So people in the same family can definitely have very different eyesight... My two sisters don't have glasses but they said they need to get them. My older sister has a very mild problem like me. I'm not sure how bad my other sister is. My brother's eyes are bad. He's had them since he was a teen. Both my parents need glasses. My mom is near sighted and my dad is far sighted. My brother definitely got my dad's eyes.
