I made it to my scheduled date/time, but my OB had told me they'd work around it if I went into labor after a huge meal. It's just not ideal.

I ate a few hours before my emergency c section. If baby needs out they'll take him out!

My hospital let me eat when I was in labor, and it didn't even come up when the emergency c-section happened. Wasn't a problem at all. I think that having your stomach clear is basically prepping for a worst-case scenario that is unlikely to happen.

They will perform the c-section. At least they did for me.

It's not a deal breaker if you've eaten they prefer empty stomachs to avoid vomit issues. Emergency surgeries of all kinds happen at all times and stomach fullness isn't a consideration. Don't worry mama, they'll just want to get that baby out safe and sound. :)

I had an emergency c section and had eaten dinner in the hospital a few hours before.

I was under anesthesia too and they just dealt with it so I'm sure they can work around it if you've eaten recently!

@Dandelion: I don't have any experience, but I think it's so you don't vomit. I've had friends that have had last minute emergency C-sections, and they ate huge meals beforehand, they didn't think they'd be having babies right away that day.

@Dandelion: I Had my bloody show right after I woke up, so I called my OB. She did instruct me not to eat anything and to come into the hospital. It was the day before my scheduled section. I started having mild contractions and they stopped completely by that night.

I was ultimately sent home. The hospital was full & I was "scheduled" for a 12:45 section but there were two emergencies and I kept getting pushed back. Sine my contractions were tapering off & I was scheduled for 10am the next day they sent me home.

That's a good question. I don't have answers for you because my section was scheduled at 38 weeks + 2 days, so the Dr didn't think there was too much chance — so I didn't give it any thought (although looking back, labour obviously could have started by then). I'll likely have another section in the event of #2, so I'd like to hear what others say!! Hope you get some good advice :)

Did the hospital have to take into consideration of when you last ate before they performed the c section? Did they just do it and hope for the best, or did they have to wait for your stomach to clear?

I was told not to eat 8 hours before my scheduled time. But, what if I eat and then go into labor? I need the section, because of a breech baby (and other reasons most of you know), but I don't want to have to labor just because I ate.

Obviously, I'm not going to not eat just cause of this reason, but I am just curious to what other's experiences are?
