I was home for first 22 months then returned to teaching. My position is very different then before, so that has been a whole other change for me. I have fewer responsibilities, but am working less with my passion/subject area, which makes me sad/feels like babysitting to me, not teaching. But in terms of daycare, yes she often cries still at drop off after like three months, but occasionally she goes happily if someone holds her. Her lovey helps a bit for her transition. But as looch says, it's just her nature. We will always be very attached to each other and that's that. I love how she learns things without me, and I hear her say or sing things I know she picked up from school. I love that she is being socialized. She is getting so much better at manners and following directions than when she was home with just me. She probably would have anyway, but seeing that sudden contrast and growth is amazing. I love that she is learning and expanding her world beyond me. She is becoming more independent, which she would have with time anyway obviously, but I love to see her taking care of herself more.I think my mental health has improved drastically overall despite feeling rushed and stressed in the mornings, which is a small price to pay. I'm so grateful and happy/proud I was able to stay home with her as long as I did, but it was Hard for me(not a baby person/anxiety issues/). I am only planning on having one child, so for me it was no question I was going back to work. I believe it was good practice letting go, which never gets easier, but just accepting that loss of control. I think we are both doing pretty well with it. She does have the constant daycare sicknesses though, but to be expected I suppose it could be much worse. Overall, I say go for it and you will find your way to what works.

@looch: I'm nervous about this after a sort of rough transition to pt preschool but hoping just expanding the hours won't be a HUGE deal.

It was a roller coaster. The first 3 months were an adjustment period during which we made mistakes, tweaked the routine, dealt with daycare, etc. My son had a tough adjustment, I am always very truthful about that. He was crying at night, no school, no school and the following morning, I cried in the office. I got some of the best advice that morning from a senior mom, she basically told me that I shouldn't wait for my son to get over it, he might always be the sensitive type. It turned out to be very true.

I was at home for about 2 years. I hadn't decided to stay home and I will be honest, I hadn't planned on returning to work. But, I got an offer that was very flexible and now, three years later, it's still one of the best decisions I made.

I only temped and then got pregnant and sick and stopped but I loved it. Household balance was better, dd adjusted to people other than me, and I got a breather and adult time. I just had a second baby but plan to go again and look for ft work in mid Jan.
