@travellingbee: for sure ask your doctor if you can eat, I didn't and after 36 hours of labor in the hospital I was HANGRY lol

1st pregnancy
induced at 39wks due to pre-e, no cervical change
36 hours of labor, started with cervadil, then did a Foley bulb then Pitocin
I got to a 7 and asked for an epidural then labor stalled completely
so I had an emergency C-section as the baby's heart rate was dropping

@travellingbee:
My first
41 weeks and one cm dilated, 0 effaced.
Cervix ripening, pitocin & folley balloon
Labored for 17 hours, folley balloon never fell out but went behind babies head at 5 cm. got epidural. Then dilated to a 9, took epidural away, started pushing. Pushed for 2 hours with no progress. Ended in emergency c section

1. Both pregnancies (singleton then twins)
2. 41 weeks and 3 cm dilated (had been for weeks), 38 weeks and 2/3 cm again (not exactly sure)
3. Pitocin both times, 1st time also broke my water a couple hours in, with the twins my water broke on its own after an hour
4. First took longer and had me push too early and then had to take an hour break and then back at it....exhausting. But still had her maybe 8 hours after first dose of Pitocin. Twins were super fast from first dose out within 4 hours and a couple pushes each.

39 weeks, completely shut tight (I was induced due to GD)

3. What method did they use?
2 doses of cervadil

4. What was the result? (How did it go?)
Got to 3cm after those 2 doses (took like 12+ hrs)

1. I did for my 1st, and probably will for #2 as well.
2. I was 37 weeks. 2cm dilated and 75% effaced
3. Pitocin
4. It went really, really well! My L&D was super smooth and I'm hoping my L&D with DD will be similar, if not smoother. Had a few hiccups at the beginning, but after that, all was good!

1. Second baby (I was 41+3)
2. I was at 3cm and 70% effaced when I got to the hospital.
3. They started pitocin at 10:30 and broke my water at 2:45
4. 7.5 hours start to finish. I was able to go without an epidural and she was out after less than five minutes of pushing.

I was encouraged to eat until the last minute. I also had GBS and couldn't walk around a ton but that was because of the monitor, not my IV. I could go to the bathroom, she offered me a ball to sit on, and she said I could walk around the bed if I wanted to.

1. First, or second or more pregnancy? First
2. How favorable was your cervix and how many weeks were you? 39 weeks and not at all favorable
3. What method did they use? Started with Misoprostol (sp?) I think 3 times the first day then I went home. Went in the second morning expecting to start Pitocin but not much progress had been made so another 3 doses of the same. Third day they finally gave me Pitocin.
4. What was the result? (How did it go?) It was a looong process because of the 2 days of cervical ripening. They were planning to send me home the second night but something showed on the monitors so I ended up staying. That was pretty scary because it happened during shift change and the new midwife was awful and never even came to tell me what was going on. I had a few real contractions that night but even though they dissipated they started Pitocin late morning on the 3rd day. After that it was pretty fast. Once I got the epidural I relaxed for 30 min - an hour and then felt the urge to push. DS was out in 2 contractions.

First baby
41 weeks
Fully effaced and 4 cm dialated
My membranes had been scrapped in the morning and in the afternoon I was started on a pitocin drip.
It went well. I started pitocin around 2 PM, the contractions were quite strong starting at 6 PM, and baby was born at 1:30 AM, I felt that 12 hours was a reasonable amount of time for my first.

First and so far, only.

2. How favorable was your cervix and how many weeks were you?
I was 1cm (and that was being generous according to my doc) and exactly 40 weeks.

3. What method did they use?
Broke my water and pitocin drip.

4. What was the result? (How did it go?)
C-section after 14 hours stalling at 4cm. The induction itself went well overall. I had traumatic cervix checks and internal monitor being placed. That was the worst. My labor never got overly painful. I didn't get an epidural until hour 12. Probably because I never was laboring well enough to progress. :silly:

@travellingbee: ask your doctor about eating for sure! Many hospitals/doctors are allowing some food these days; it seems like the no eating thing is becoming outdated. I'd try to eat for sure before getting admitted. Also, I had my IV pole with me the whole time since I was on pitocin. It was a bit cumbersome, but didn't stop me from moving around since its mobile. The continuous monitoring band is usually what makes it hard to move.

@travellingbee: If you need abx you can ask for a hep lock so you can move around completely between doses, plus you can walk while it's dripping as long as you drag/push the pole with you. With the hep lock they can cover it with a glove if you want to use the shower or tub. It's harder with pitocin but if they're willing (ask!!!!) you might be able to at least kneel in bed or at the side of the bed or bounce on the ball next to the bed as long as you have a nurse willing to adjust the monitors as necessary. (Unless you have an epi, obviously.) Don't be afraid to advocate for yourself!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: ouch! You are a trooper!

@travellingbee: The nurse always cleared each meal beforehand with the doctor. I wasn't allowed anything but crackers and juice on Friday when I was admitted. They allowed breakfast, and lunch the next day, but told me be careful what I ordered in case it came out during delivery 😵. I didn't get dinner the next night, or breakfast, because it may/may not have been close to game time (it ended up not being close!) I asked for lunch since we knew I was having the baby one way or another by day three, and the midwife allowed it. But, since mine wasn't planned, there weren't any initial instructions about not eating. Hopefully, they allow you to eat once you get settled in, and they get started.

1. Both pregnancies at 39 weeks.
2. Cervix was favorable for both. I was at dilated to 4 each time, and waters were bulging.
3. With #1, my doctor broke my water right away, and then started Pitocin about 3 hours later. She was born 10 hours after my water was broken. With #2, my doctor wasn't there and they started the Pitocin before breaking my water. I was on PIT from 9pm until 6am with no change. Contractions would start each time they upped the PIT and then stop about a half hour later. By 6am I was on the highest PIT level and was begging them to just break my waters. Finally the on call doc came and broke my water. My body immediately took over and they turned the PIT off. Baby was out 4 hours later.
4. Both babies came out healthy and happy, although with my first she had the cord wrapped three times. My biggest regret with #2 is not demanding they break my water immediately. For whatever reason my body does not seem to want to go into labor until my water breaks, regardless of the amount of PIT they give me. I am pregnant with #3 and if I am induced this time I will be a better advocate for myself. :)

@travellingbee: Yeah, I agree with @T.H.O.U.: . The monitors I had were little metal discs and they were attached to my tummy with fabric straps. If I moved slightly, the discs moved at they lost the baby's heartbeat. Getting up, moving around, squatting, getting on all fours were all out. But you probably wont need them unless you need the drip.

I was induced my first pregnancy due to pre e.
I was 40 weeks pregnant, with very favorable bishops score. I was almost 5 cm.
I was immediately hooked to pitocin.
It went well. Took 16 hours start to finish. Biggest negative was getting over 30 stitches after tearing in a star shape.

@travellingbee: I did many many laps with DH pushing the IV pole. It more has to do with the monitors and if your hospital has a wireless machine and they can get the monitors to stay in place while you're walking. They have to monitor the baby pretty closely as the Pit increases.

1. First pregnancy
2. I was 40+3 and had been 1-2cm and 60% effaced since 38weeks. I had started contracting regularly (24 hours of 5-1-1) but without progressing
3. I went in at 10pm for cervadil, with plans for pit and water breaking in the morning. My water broke on its own at 5am, and they started the pit immediately after that.
4. Absolutely the right decision. Pit helped move things along, was fully dilated by 5pm. My epidural failed then, so didn't start pushing until reestablished- baby came after about an hour of pushing

@regberadaisy: oh good to know. She talked about maybe just breaking my water instead of doing pitocin since she thinks I will go quick once we start.

@travellingbee: I was GBs positive for both pregnancies and was attached to IV. Moving around was not an issue, the IV just had to follow me.
