Thanks everyone, I think I’ve talked myself off the ledge on this one ... just kind of threw me.

Going to try to get my ob to write out what we want to try (based on seeing her at 39w and whatever my progress by then looks like) and do what I can (haha) to go into labor before the induction date. Hopefully even if I get there I’ll be super ready to go!

My water broke without any other signs of labor and my OB wasn't there. But I'm not sure if they called him to start to Pitocin or not since they advised me of the 24 hours till birth or C-Section rule. I always assumed it was just standard but they could of called him first.

I was induced with my first at 41 weeks. Had no idea who the doctor was. The midwife on call did everything. She was great and although I did end up with a csec for failure to progress (stalled at 9cm) the midwife was great and stuck through with me even after her shift ended. She even came into surgery to calm my nerves.

Unmediated super fast vbac for second with whoever was on call.

With my 3rd, my practice didn’t believe in inducing for a vbac and other doctors I saw throughout pregnancy kept asking me why my csec wasn’t scheduled for 41 weeks. My primary doctor told me we would do a secret low dose induction and she was confident bc I had delivered naturally before that I prob could do so again. she had me come in when she was on call at 40 + 6. She helped get the induction started, broke my water (I was already 5cm when I arrived) and then never saw her again. Although I was grateful she helped me do an induction when it wasn’t really their official policy, I was kinda miffed she left me without even saying bye or good luck or anything. Didn’t even know she left until a different midwife walked in.

I intentionally scheduled my 40 week appt with the doctor I liked best in the practice, and she gave me an option to schedule an induction for Monday or Friday in the 41st week, which were the days she was on call. I ended up having the baby before the scheduled Friday induction, but I think it gave me peace of mind knowing if an induction was necessary it would be with my preferred doctor.

Baby 1: No. it was an emergency induction and I just went with the OB on call.

Baby 2: Yes! It was a scheduled, elective induction because I went past my due date.

Both experiences were great, and both times I felt like I was in great hands.

I was induced for "neonate continuance of care". My OB just did my cervix checks until it was time to deliver, but she also was handling a complicated emergency c-section at the same time (no wonder she retired three weeks later!). I'm thinking the nurses were probably filling her in every once in a while though.

We scheduled my induction at 42 weeks on a day she my doctor was scheduled. I knew going in that she would be my doctor during her shift, but since most inductions take more than 12 hours, she likely would not be delivering the baby. My induction was quick - it took 6 hours from checking in to delivery so my ob was the delivery doctor.

Nope. She ordered the induction and was there for the delivery. One thing I would have done differently would be to have her include in the orders that the pit should be turned down once labor begins progressing. When she came in it had been amped up for hours and she had them turn it off right away.

I was induced with my 2nd at 39 weeks because I had a high chance of having a precipitous delivery. My OB "oversaw" it I guess but she wasn't actually in the hospital - she basically left orders for the nurses to start Cervidil and keep her posted, she would come to check me when she came in the morning (they started Cervidil about 9:30pm) and possibly start pitocin/break my water.

My water broke and the baby was born an hour later about 4 minutes after I got my epidural (so that worked well - LOLLLL) and the nurses delivered him. I was having nonstop contractions while I got my epidural and I was pushing (it was like out of control - couldn't stop it) and told the nurses, they flipped me over and checked me and said she's complete, call the doctor! And then the baby came flying out.

I didn’t want my OB anywhere near me during my induction but I hate her with the fire of a thousand suns. The five midwives who oversaw my three day low intervention induction were all 100% on board with me making all the calls about interventions and had no problems with how long it was taking. We were at a pretty pro low-intervention hospital though.

Yes! Purposely induced with my 2nd at 39w so that my specific OB could deliver. They said since I had previously already had one vaginal delivery, inducing at 39w was no problem. It was a great experience, 9 hrs from start to finish. Good luck!

My OB did oversee my induction, and it was a much smoother experience than my first delivery where the on-call OB delivered. My OB came in the morning to examine me, and had them start pitocin. She came again around lunchtime to break my water. She was always planning to come then, I was at 5 cm. She came again in the evening to deliver the baby. I assume she was making the calls about pitocin. They did decrease pitocin at one point because they were having trouble tracking the heartbeat, because the baby kept moving.

With my first I needed pitocin after labor stalled, and I also had an episiotomy. I had a planned epidural both times. My first labor was 12 hours from water breaking, and my second was 8 hours from starting pitocin.

I actually scheduled both inductions so that they would be with my OB... so with my first, she was going on vacation at 40 weeks, so we induced a few days early.

No, but my OB is out of a large hospital with many practitioners who rotate each week for deliveries, so I knew it was a slim chance that my actual OB would be there when delivery time came. The decision to induce me was made that morning (low fluid on an ultrasound) by a nurse practitioner so they had me come in right away. The OB in rotation that day was wonderful and made the decisions on pitocin levels, etc with a team of people. I was fine with another OB overseeing everything, and she was wonderful... although I only saw her 2-4 times before crowning! My nurse made all the difference, she was awesome and the main point of contact for the OB about what was going on. Hope that gives some peace of mind if yours is on vaca on your big day!

Yes, when I induced for my second, my OB was overseeing it (the main part - when I arrived the night before to start the process, a different doctor was on call). We actually induced at 39w2d (one reason was so we could have our OB!), and it was fast and went very smoothly. I was happy that I didn't wait to go into labor - it was great to be able to plan, especially with another kid at home.

I honestly have no clue who was making what decisions for my induction. Can you have your OB come up with an induction order (is that even a thing?) If it were me, I would wait until 40 weeks because you will likely go into labor on your own anyway and it should be A LOT smoother of an experience when your body is closer to ready. ( I had a 32 hour induction, so I am a bit biased.)

No. With my first pregnancy, I knew there was a high chance that my OB wouldn't be there and she wasn't. Had a million different doctors since my induction took a along time then I almost had an emergency c-section. Would it have been different if my OB oversaw the whole thing from beginning to end? I don't know! It was my first time and I just went with what the doctors. I did deliver naturally.

We’ve been thinking we’ll induce on my due date if i don’t go early. Just found out though that she’s on vacation that whole week (due date is a Friday ... she’s on call Wed and Fri so we had two reasonable options).

I’m hoping I’ll just go into labor which did happen the first two times but no guarantee. We had talked about a low intervention induction and I know she would be very reasonable about discussing options with me (my first two were med-free deliveries so no experience with this).

The practice has about 10 OBs and I don’t really know any of the others ... no idea how supportive they would be, though I plan to ask my ob next week. I didn’t care who delivered my other two because my body was doing all the work on its own but seems different when you’re making decisions about pitocin and breaking water and such. But if I really want her I’d have to induce at 39w.

Guess I’m just looking for any other experiences that might be helpful! Thanks!
