I'm sorry you had a rough flight! People are usually understanding though. And my LO is the same way about the intercom... She's 19 months and finally getting better about it but I remember the earlier flights well. Every time it went on, even if she was already awake, she would cry or at the very least she would startle. Glad you made it to your destination safely...now cut yourself some slack, it's not like you could have gotten off of the plane!

I totally feel you. We flew a red eye from lax to boston last summer when dd was 6.5 months. We had her settled in the ergo, boarded the plane ... Then sat.on.the.tarmac. For an hour due to mechanical trouble. Not only did she not fall asleep nursing, but she got totally over stimulated by the pink lights (we flew virgin America thinking direct was a good thing) and *shrieked* for a solid hour. Of course, once the engines turned on and we started taxiing, she passed out and slept like an angel through the flight, baggage claim and most of the drive to my MIL's house .... But dh and I were already scarred. We got no sympathetic looks, no compliments - of course. :( in hind sight, I haven't yet and never will see any of those people again. We had a great trip and return flight and life has gone on. Plus we have a great story to tease her with when she's older. All this to say, I know how you're feeling!! No fun! :)

@Katrocap: I'm so sorry! We've flown many times and have been lucky so far - I know our day is coming soon. :wink: If it makes you feel better, anytime I hear a baby/toddler crying on a plane my first reaction is (and always was, pre-family) sympathy!!

@yoursilverlining: Is it terrible that your reply actually did make me feel better? :wink: But seriously, I'm sorry you had to go through that. I cannot imagine flying during the first trimester.

@mamamoose: Some folks did give me encouraging smiles and that helped (a little). I was desperately trying to calm DS; he wouldn't even take the boob!

@78H20: What an ordeal for you guys! I feel like we were in the same boat: I'd read sooooo many posts/blogs/articles about tips for traveling with a 15 month old, had brought the "right" toys/books/etc.

@mamamoose: Good luck with your trip this summer! I'd flown with DS at 3 and 7 months, but he wasn't mobile and couldn't even roll over then.

@ameliabedila: Ha! Good point.

@stine_ciro: We're travel twins!

Aww, I know that is very stressful and am glad you guys made it through it. I think most people can see that it's not fun for anyone and the parents are doing everything they can to calm the baby down. The ones who can't are jerks....

But, if anyone was on United flight 1033 from Panama last night or in the line at immigration in Houston - I apologize, this was us almost exactly. LO was fine until the pilot made an announcement and woke her up. It was downhill from there. To be fair, our original flight was cancelled and the flight we were on was 4 hours later so we were getting past her bedtime and we'd all been up since 3:30 that morning.

Aw mama, if it makes you feel any better; I'm still mentally apologizing to the passengers of the JetBlue flight I was on at 6 weeks pregnant where I literally vomited into multiple airsick bags for the *entire flight* from New Orleans to Maine! Lol I still feel guilty!!! :bummed: :bummed:

You poor thing!!!! When LOs are upset on a plane I always try to give the parents an encouraging smile (as long as the parents are TRYING to help calm the baby). I think anyone who has a kid knows that these things happen!!

Aww, I'm so sorry!!!! It's so stressful and embarassing to travel with a little one who is upset like that.

I am still totally traumatized from my 3.5 hour return trip from TX in January... my LO spent the majority of the flight freaking out (or thinking about freaking out)... she had just learned to run, climb, etc. and she did NOT want to sit in my lap. She spent the entire flight squirming, dropping to the floor, screaming at the top of her lungs, etc. It was a full on nightmare, despite the fact that I had prepared like crazy, timed things just right, packed a million activities, etc. The outbound flight wasn't that much better. The outbound flight was during her nap, but she refused to nap. The return flight was after her nap, so she was happy, but hyper/pissed about having to sit still. I am not flying again until she is interested in watching cartoons or something!

... I am sorry. That was my little boy, in the very back row, screaming for the last half hour of the flight. Everything was hunky-dory, DS was fast asleep and we were cuddling, until the pilot came over the intercom and announced we'd be landing in 25 minutes. DS's eyes shot open and he wailed, writhed and sweated for those next 25 minutes. No one made any rude comments, thank goodness. And then, after howling and flailing about relentlessly, DS fell asleep as the plane was landing! After that, when it was time to disembark, I couldn't find my phone. It wasn't in my pockets, not in the diaper bag, or the Ergo pocket. The flight attendants couldn't find it on the floor, either. One flight attendant called my number, and I could hear my phone ringing, it sounded like it was on my body. After the flight attendant called a few times, I located my phone. I had put it in my bra - for safekeeping.

So if you happened to be on my flight last night, DS and I would like to apologize. It wasn't much fun for us, either :happy:
