With our first, he was so overwhelmed that the midwife had to prompt him to look. He then got all flustered - the umbilical cord was in the way and he wasn't sure whether or not he could move it... I think the staff was used to parents already knowing. Maybe a few seconds after her birth, I asked, and the Dr turned her around so I saw for myself.
