It is still my favorite job to date. It may have had a lot to do with the staff, though. I made some amazing friends working there. But the discount didn't hurt, either. We were given 40% clothes, and 30% off accessories, including surfboards. I really enjoyed working for my campus bookstore for a few years; reading all the book titles helped me figure out what major I wanted to change into when I got out of biology. ;) I think if I were to work in retail now I'd like to work at the Container Store. I hear they are one of the best companies to work for. I used to work customer service for the online division of a family-owned Kitchenwares store in Philadelphia, and I loved doing it, but I wouldn't want to have to move back to Philly. There are sooo many options....characters or shows if you meet criteria, retail, food service, guides (for instance, hang on the trails in animal kingdom and point out the monkeys), etc. @mediagirl: Yup I think they're similar. My moms worked for Disney store forever so her benefits are better than if someone walked in and got hired - it takes awhile to get the good stuff. But she gets tickets, merch discounts & 50% off hotels :) Only downside is that I can't enter any Disney sponsored contests because I'm related to her! @Coco Bee: My high school bf worked at whole foods and loved it. And he is not an easy to please or pleasant person (to me), lol. Per shoplifters, @mediagirl & @Mrbee, when I worked retail (specifically lowes) we had to scrutinize every shopper! Open boxes that weren't sealed, check carts, etc. If we caught something we actually received a bonus based on the cost of the item, that's how huge they were on shrink there! I also secretly loved bagging people. My mom (@ the Disney store) said people try to steal everything, it's nuts. They were an awful company to work for so I only lasted a year between the two places. Or, I would pretend I couldn't find a tag on something and call someone. Once they came up, I would try to explain as fast as possible what was going on so we could get security up there. As long as they didn't walk out with the items, though, we couldn't do anything about it. At that point, our job was to watch them and make sure they didn't beep on the way out. If you work for "the mouse" you get perks like 2 free passes to the parks every 6 months and discounts to the Disney store/stores in Walt Disney World. I worked for ESPN for a few years and man those Disney benefits were awesome! I don't know if I would want to work retail again! I have done it a few times and just wasn't a big fan. My feet get tired quickly. I did enjoy catching shoplifters when I worked at Kohl's, though. People would bring up loads of towels and even though it's profiling, you look at the person, then decide if you're going to unfold the towels before you scan them. I found I could "accidentally" drop a towel on the counter and pick it up unfolded...along with a washcloth and hand towel!!
