Ugh right when I found out I was pregnant, my 2yo skipped nap for almost a whole week! I was so freaked out. I finally got him to nap by rocking him for like 30 min one day (we never rock for nap normally) and then the spell was broken. Thank god! I just was not ready to let that go unless I saw magical impacts on bedtime... not the case.

@littlejoy: I'm freaking out because we're traveling a lot in the next few weeks and I need her to nap on planes/in the car!

Agree with everyone who is suggesting that this is likely just a phase. Our 3.5 year old has gone through these phases (totally freaks me out when it happens), but she usually gets back to her usual rhythm within a week or two. I'm hoping naps stick around until she's at least 4.

My kiddo is 3.5 and she has gone through lots of phases where she didn't nap for a couple weeks. Sometimes she just isn't tired so now I just roll with it and enjoy the early bedtime. She will likely go back to it! Mine still naps about 50% of the time

DD1 is 29 months and she fights naps hard at home sometimes but we usually force a nap knowing she needs it. But if she skips/barely naps at school or did an accidental short car nap, we don't stress about that and she's fine. I think she needs some form of nap still but doesn't have to be long.

I think it's up to you whether or not it's a phase. Pretty much all kids I know went through the same thing at the same age. Some of the moms just gave up on naps at that point and some persisted and got their kids back on track. With my oldest, this was a major turning point. He went from a terrible sleeper to a great one for both naps and nighttime. My second didn't really have such a positive outcome from it but he did start napping regularly again. To get him to nap during this stage I sat next to him in my bed and he would fall asleep. He does nap in his bed now - it was just a temporary fix. Good luck!

@winniebee: Nope, already has all her teeth!

Thanks for the reassurance, everyone. Glad to hear your kids kept napping. We'll keep putting her in her crib and giving her quiet time. Hopefully she'll be back to napping most days soon.

My son did this at 2 and at 2.5 but I stuck with quiet time and he always went back to napping most days at least. We dropped the nap just after he turned 3 last month (he was only napping maybe once a week and even a brief nap wreaks havoc with bedtime).

My 2.5 year old has had naps on and off for the last 6 months or so. There are some weeks where he will skip naps for 3-4 days, and then weeks when he'll nap every single day. It definitely seems to go back and forth for us.

Could be getting molars? My son didn't nap when getting 2 year molars. He also didn't so when he brother was born for 2 weeks. He did give up the nap on the early side (34m)

Right around 2 my sons sleep went to hell. I stuck with naps and now at just over 3 he still naps 90% of the time. Stick to it! Get lots of outdoor time if you can... I find that helps.

We hit sleep hiccups right at age 2 and age 3. Yay milestones. It usually lasted about 2 weeks or less and then back to normal.

Totally agree with sweetiepie. My dd is very hit or miss with naps but I'm a big proponent of quiet time and she always eventually ends up napping a few days a week. Don't stress too much.

I treat all sleep related disruptions like a phase until it has persisted for at least a month. I would keep doing what you're doing and enforcing nap time. If she doesn't nap then ok, early bedtime. My ped told me that quiet time in the crib even if they don't sleep is better than nothing.
And in my opinion 2 is wayyy to young to drop a nap. (I think you agree, just concurring with you).

Hang in there, I bet she'll start napping again before you know it.

Did they eventually start napping again? If so, how long did it take them to get back to normal?

DD is 22 months and has skipped her nap 4 of the last 5 days. She goes in her crib and chats and reads to herself but doesn't sleep or sleeps only 5 minutes. I'm not ready for her to be done with nap, so please tell me this is a phase and she'll start napping again soon!
