@Pumpkin Pie: that's s good idea. When I was pregnant and went I knew what to look for and ask but now my perspective is so different; what a good idea to schedule a visit again!

@MamaG: Exactly! I love that part of daycare is that they probably know better than I do with what to do! I'm afraid my nanny/mom will just keep doing what I do now or train her wrong.

@snowjewelz: oh, you know I'm obsessed about sleep! We had a nanny when LO was 3 months and switched to daycare. I personally think there are a lot of pros to daycare v nanny. When I went to visit the daycare, the babies were so smiley and well adjusted, and the caretakers were really good and made me feel comfortable. I worried and asked the caretakers what would happen if my LO just couldn't get along in daycare, and they assured me that all the smiley babies there were once cry babies, but that they adjusted. It's important that you feel confident in your daycare, so ask as many questions, visit as many times, etc.

With a nanny, I felt like it was the same thing every day, and I wanted my baby to learn and be exposed to different environments. At daycare, I like that she has other babies to look at, and that she'll learn she is not the center of attention.

Eta: and daycare was cheaper.

Neither of my kids knew how to fall asleep when they started daycare. His teachers are great and they do what they need to do to get them to sleep. For my youngest they said he had a certain swing that they saved for him because that was all that worked for him but when he got too big they rocked him and eventually he could transfer into the crib.

The good news is, if she doesn't sleep much at daycare, she will sleep at home. They figure it out. K is learning to sleep on her back in a crib at daycare because they require it. She might be rocked to sleep, but must sleep in the crib.

I think there are a lot of pros to daycare, and one of them is the experience of the workers and the ability to learn to adapt to other surroundings.

@snowjewelz: we were in the same boat around 4 months when he started daycare. He is now 5.5 months and just went down for a nap in his crib alone!

@Pumpkin Pie: haha I was thinking I might see you in here. I know who the sleep obsessed mamas are around here lol! I plan to call on Mon.. Right now I possibly have a nanny option, but if daycare can actually help her learn to sleep better herself maybe I would put her in it

This sounds bad but daycare is usually such a new over stimulating environment that they are just extra tired and usually know to sleep to rest. Nothing you can change about it so try not to stress about it

My 4 month old started daycare last week. She falls asleep on her own at home, but couldnt do it at daycare because the environment is just so different, and it is pretty loud all the time. She cried A LOT the first couple days. The first day, she took like 15-20 min naps. Then, she was able to take some 30 min naps. The caretakers said they will rock or bounce to help fall asleep if needed. Contact your daycare to see if they will do the same for your LO. I hear that it does take some time to adjust, and there will be some crying, but that the babies do end up adjusting at some point.
