We did a lot of "toddler recipes" from Weelicious (website and cookbook) like mac n cheese bites, black bean cakes, .broccoli bites, meatloaf bites, etc. I would make double batches and freeze the extras so I always had something for LO's lunch and dinner.

We would send in a container of sliced green grapes, toasted American bread that was cut into strips, steamed baby carrots, yogurt, and certain leftovers. She would only be given one of these items each day at daycare, plus puffs & yogurt melts.

@pastemoo: yeah I think I just need to get over it...but I appreciate the sympathy!

@matador84: watermelon is a great idea! He is still pretty little so I think we have to wait a little for round things like blueberries, but those will be good for the future.

When you dish out dinner put a little in a tupperware for the next day. Then you don't have to think about leftovers and it's done.

@pastemoo: I will for some things for sure. I just now have to think about means that translate well into baby eating and leftovers along with thinking about what the 4 yo will eat, what I have time to make when we get home and if there are leftovers for my lunches. So that is why it seems a little daunting!

@BabyBoecksMom: ooh I forgot about yogurt bites! Thanks! And I guess leftovers make sense, it's just one more factor for meal planning.

We did the baby led weaning and it worked great for both girls. Mine hated purees unless they were in a pouch so we just gave them some of what we ate the night before, along with puffs and yogurt drops.

@pastemoo: I agree that food is for fun but he is interested and seems ready. I guess I should just make mini portions of what we are eating but it is so straightforward to just share and seems like a lot of work. I just need to adjust to it! Plus his weight is a little low so I agree with the doctor that he is ready for more solids. BLW websites are a good idea--thanks!

I didn't start him in care till 8 months but he wasn't interested in food till 10 months, so I just didn't send anything. I'd just give whatever baby will taste at home--or save foods for home only. At 6 months, food is pretty much just for fun. I'd rather do it myself and take photos than have daycare do it.

But if you really want to send food, look up baby led weaning and see if any of it interests you.

LO just turned 6 months old, has 6 teeth and a healthy interest in food, but absolutely no interest in purées!

At home we have been giving him pieces of what we eat and he is doing well with that but i need to figure out what to send to daycare for him. Ideas please!
