@beaker: I am glad that he is home. I knew he was in for an extended time, I just didn't realize it was that long (!). I would snuggle him like crazy with no regret!!!

DS was in for 15 days and I definitely held him way more than most parents would. My mom would even make comments that he must be cold cause he wants to be held so much and tried to give me tips so that I could put him down. I just didn't want to!

@MrsRcCar: he was 8 weeks early... Initially in the NICU for 65 days, home for 25, back for 63, and now home for a month.

@petunia354: @Ash: ok y'all are making me feel better with your special treatment for those short little stays! :) he's my 2nd, and with the 1st I nursed him to sleep for the first year and since that isn't possible I'm trying to work something out!

We were in the hospital for 10 days and I think the special treatment started there because it was so hard seeing him with an iv and it just continued once we got home. Pluuuuus, he's our first!

Absolutely! Like @MrsRcCar, we were only in the NICU for 17 days but we and especially DH were super lenient with DS. He's 14 months now and we are finally starting to treat him like a full term baby lol. We co-slept (which I never thought we'd do) and he was held ALL THE TIME. Luckily for us though he never had an issue transitioning to his crib, falling asleep on his own, etc. All those bad habits we were happy to give in to didn't affect him negatively.

I think we also felt like we had to make up for lost time. We felt so guilty about all the time he spent alone in the hospital and how he wasn't able to be held after he was born so we definitely tried to make up for that as much as we could!

@beaker: E is doing extremely well! The doctors are very impressed in his progress. The nurses in the NICU said that sometimes preemies just need to feel more physical pressure on their bodies to feel safe. Remind me how early your lo was.

Little E was in the hospital for 2 weeks (so not super extended). He is held and bounced a lot more then N. I am not sure it has to do with him being in the NICU but more to do with his temperament.

Once they were home, did you find yourself letting them get away with more?

DS2 is 6 months old (been home for just over month now from his last stay) and we've been rocking him to sleep for every nap/night. I'm going insane, and DH is working a ton so 90% of the time it's just me. But, part of me feels like he missed out on so much of the early snuggles/attention, he deserves it?

Just curious is anyone else went through this and how you dealt with it...
