@Mae: that is us, exactly. Hopeful that it is the solution for both of us!

@Skadi: so I've heard this as well, but the medicine is helping the quantity of LO's spit as well. Who knows.

Thanks for the replies everyone! We are on nexium and while I think it's working, we have been giving it in the evening about 30-45 minutes before she eats. She seems better at night now that we are giving it in the evening, but seems to suffer during the day. Maybe she needs it 2x a day....

i'm not completely sure this is our solution yet because it has only been a few days... but i'm cautiously optimistic.

she is on 1ml zantac twice/day (8am/8pm)

Prevacid twice a day, one in the morning around 7:30and once before bed around 7:30 until she was 9 months old, then switched down to once a day in the mornings. Still doing that at 22 months old.

1 pill of Prevacid as soon as she wakes up, 1.2 ML of Zantac at noon, another 1.2 ML of Zantac at 4 PM, another Prevacid pill at 8 PM.

From what our pedi has said and we've read online, you can't really expect any medication to "control" the reflux if it is caused by an immature sphincter of the esophagus. She spits up the same amount whether she's on medication or not (an average of 3 ounces per feed). But the meds do decrease the acidity, which means her esophagus isn't being damaged by all the spitting up. I can definitely notice that her breath smells really acidic when she isn't on the meds.

So we're still on Zantac after the projectile vomiting incident, but it's working better to split it up into three doses a day instead of two. I'm doing 7-8ish, noon, and 8.

Prevacid was the one that finally did it for us. We gave it in the evening on an empty stomach and had to make sure we didn't feed them for a little while after we gave it to them.

We tried Pepcid first and it didn't work. We then switched to Axid and it's been great. In the beginning, we gave it three times a day at 7:30, 3:30, and 11:30. Now at 6 months, we give it two times a day in a larger dose at 8 am and 8 pm. We were told to give it before meals (so the medicine can stay down long enough to take effect).
