She slept in her rock n play for a while around 3 months, and then on our bed until about 6 months, then it was holding only. We just broke the habit last week and she is 15 months old yesterday.

I held for naps for the longest time because he wouldn't sleep for long when I put him down. At first I tried putting him in his cradle or pack n' play but naps were always super short. Around 6 months I just refused to hold him for naps and always put him in the crib. Naps were really short at first 15-30 minutes but eventually stretched out up to 2 hours. It took some time but the key was just being consistent and eventually he figured it out. It probably took about a month until he was consistently taking 1hr + naps.

It was just a phase with us. Around 4 weeks or so she would only nap while being held, and the second I tried to put her down, she'd wake up. She did this for a couple weeks. I got a ton of TV watching accomplished. :P

Then one day, I put her down, and she didn't wake up. From then on we had the opposite problem. She wont nap unless she's lying down.

We used the pick up, put down method with both kids. I could never do cry it out so this method worked for my family and we are happy with the results so far. My son (three months) actually a falls asleep much easier on his own.

We tried the swing and crib, but she was never a good napper. She finally started taking hour long naps around 9.5 months!

We started by transitioning to the swing, then eventually to his crib. Man, I loved that swing.

She did it on her own. All of a sudden she wouldn't sleep in my arms anymore and needed to be put down to sleep.

We started day care and she had no choice. Then on the weekends, she started letting us put her down.

He will only nap in my arms but when my mom watches him he naps in his bassinet without issue. So bizarre. I think he prefers being close to mommy so he is more clingy when I'm around.

Tummy naps. She didn't nap anywhere but in arms or the car until I put her on her tummy at 10 weeks.

I think it was almost 12 weeks before she started napping in her bouncer or swing. From there, she moved to napping in her crib at 16 weeks. But swing was always the backup....she napped her 50% of the time.

There was no method to our transition. We just kept trying....we never did CIO.

Vibration worked really well for our son. We had a little chair (almost like a bouncer) that vibrated, and he slept almost exclusively in that thing for weeks. I think he liked the incline too. We also found a vibrating massage pad online, and put that under the mattress in our co-sleeper, and we propped it up a little on one side so he'd have an incline there too.

...How did you transition do a different nap routine? I'm happy to let my little guy sleep in my arms, but our sitter won't always have that option since she's got her own baby as well.
