DS1 was a big mess of spit up until 8 or 9 months. He still spit up occasionally until around his first birthday. He was a happy spitter, so he wasn't on meds; we just had a ton of laundry! Sounds like this is a common pattern.

I did notice some improvement when he started crawling, maybe because his core was stronger? I hope this happens for your LO!

@charlotte: ugh, I'm sorry :( I was so worried for awhile. I knew she had to be uncomfortable. And it was so frustrating when I would head out the door and spit up would cover both of our outfits from shoulder to shoes. The furniture stains were awful too!! It would get all over her crib, her nursery rug, the baby gates, and there were always big spit up puddles all over the floor. I wish I could've made it better for her.

My youngest spat up A LOT and it didn't slow down until 11-12 months. Her ped wasn't worried but I think her weight reflected how much she spat up (she wasn't even on the charts at 12 months for weight and by 15 months she was finally in the 3rd percentile).

@Mrs. Oatmeal: thank you! It really is awful. So sad for her and me and our furniture and everything + I feel like it's holding her back from maximizing tummy time and practicing sitting. If I didn't hold her or give her some bouncer time her whole bottle would end on the playmat.

@charlotte: our spitting up got better shortly after raising the dose of reflux meds and eliminating all dairy- so I'm not much help! But I hope it improves soon- the constant spit up is nervewracking and awful!

@charlotte: can't hurt to try! It might take a few feedings for LO to get used to it but don't get worried if she sputters a bit. Every time we switched it took a few feedings but he ended up being way happier! Also, feedings go a lot faster - bonus for you :silly:

@SweetiePie: yep our ped did but that's an interesting point. These are slow and "natural" so maybe she is sucking too hard and an easier flow would work better. Will try!

Oh dear. First of all, I forgot I made this thread and just came back to it. I spent the whole day cleaning spit ups and doing laundry :silly: (honestly!)

Second, sounds like 8 months is the EARLIEST we could see major improvement. Hard to hear but glad to know what reality is and that the cute bandana bibs I ordered are worth it ....... Yikes.

Thank you for the feedback and hugs to all.... never had any clue with my son that baby life could be like this (we assumed we made awesome feeding, sleep, etc choices and were parenting pros but baby two has shown me that we were just lucky!!!)

Mine was a happy spitter until she was almost a year old. I think we might have taken the bibs off a little after she turned 10 months, and it completely went away by 11-12 months. She was on Zantac, Prevacid and Elecare until she was 4 months old. We decided to wean her off all of it and see how she does, and honestly, being without meds and special formula didn't seem to make a difference, she spit up regardless and didn't seem very bothered by it after 4 months or so. Maybe talk to your doc to see if you can try going without the drugs? I agree with @sweetiepie about the slow flow nipples - those were actually worse for my LO so we stuck with regular ones. It did stop eventually, though it felt like it never would.

We had a MAJOR spitter. Also Zantac and Alimentum. I want to say it slowed down around 6 months, but was still significantly more than most babies. I would say it wasn't totally gone until 9/10 months.
Also, did your ped tell you to do slow flow nipples? Mine told me NOT to do slower than he could handle because then he might be sucking harder and taking in more air - which meant more burping/spitting. Slow flow was my initial thought as well, but once she told me that we went with the appropriate speed for his age. I can't say if it helped though because we didn't do slow flow for too long. (Not a lot to compare it to).
It is so annoying while in it - laundry all the time! Rug and couch covered in spit up! I always had to carry spare clothes for myself, changed my outfit no less than 3 times a day. But now at 17 months I can barely remember it. It really does become a distant memory. xoxo

At 9 months it got WAY better. Before that we changed clothes a few times a day, and all of a sudden a switch flipped, and it was vastly improved. She'll still spit up some at 12 months, but hardly anything.

My daughter was AWFUL. At one point, we were averaging 12 bibs and 2-3 outfit changes at day care. It was just constant. I'd say it improved drastically around 7-8 months and now at 9 months it's about once or twice a day. I really didn't think it would ever get better but it did.

LO, who had reflux, still spit regularly until about 7-8 months. We weaned off Zantac around 9 mos, and she was pretty much done with spitting up around then, and completely done by 1 year.

Following... my son will be 6 months tomorrow, very bad reflux and severe mspi (+ other foods). He's on Nexium + Zantac, I BF but I'm on a pretty strict elimination diet (we failed Alimentum, have Elecare as our backup if we need formula). Cannot wait for the constant spitting up to end!!

Anyone else's baby also vomit up curdled chunks of milk in addition to the milk spit up? Looks like feta cheese in vinegar! (disclaimer - his GI knows about it).

A year. He was on Alimentum with rice cereal to thicken, but now I'm sure he should have been on meds. He's on meds now at almost 4 because the reflux stayed, he just learned to swallow it instead of spit it up. This is an ongoing issue for us.

R spit up all day every day multiple times after every feeding. By 7m it got the tiniest bit better but no real improvement until 8 months. At 9 months he spit up just a few times a day. 10 months maybe every few days - it was rare. Part of our problem was overeating. I know there was a mechanical component to it, but once I saw how voraciously he ate solids it made some sense.
