@jetsa: oh sorry  They're all different aren't they? You could always try leaving him for a few days for the hour and see what happens. If he's throwing a fit upon waking he's probably still tired.

@jetsa: I started when she transitioned to two naps and her naps were typically longer. That was around 6.5/7 months. She typically has a two hour nap and a 1-1.5 hour nap. So if she wakes up early I just leave her til the hour mark. It's only happened a handful of times and she either just plays or talks to herself or fusses a bit but usually falls back to sleep.

Before that she was having 3-4 naps and they'd range from 30 minutes to two hours. It was harder to do it then. I'd try to nurse her back to sleep but if it didn't work she just got up cause she was going to go back down for a nap again in 1.5 hours anyways!

@delight: when did you start leaving her for the hour? I feel like I need to do something like this but DS throws a fit when he wakes up if you don't immediately get him.

At that age I would nurse back to sleep.

Now at 10 months she stays in her crib til the hour mark, but she doesn't usually wake up before an hour anyways anymore.

@hilsy85: same. I pretty much tried anything.

I wouldnt worry so much about being overfull. I don't thill that much milk comes out when they are comfort nursing.

My LO is only 6 weeks but I generally give her a few min to see if she falls back asleep on her own. And if not I try to rock her back to sleep.

ETA: I only nurse to sleep for night sleep, not naps. So she isn't that used to nursing to sleep.

I used to! Sometimes rocking with pacifier worked, sometimes nursing. It depended. My LO nursed a loooot and didn't seem overfull very often ;)

I would try rocking, nursing, or paci-ing back to sleep. Once LO was older, I would leave him for 15/20 min and sometimes he would put himself back to sleep.

Sometimes when they have wakeups like that, it means they're overtired, Is that possible with your LO?

I formula fed my baby but I would always offer her paci in those circumstances and hope she went back to sleep. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didnt.

If your baby wakes up from a nap and you know they're still tired, do you nurse them back down? Wait an hour and try again?

LO#2 is 3.5 months. I know she is capable of long naps (2-3 hours) but sometimes she'll wake up 20-30 minutes later crying and rubbing her eyes. Some days I have to nurse her back down so many times I'm afraid she'll throw up from being too full. What do you do?
