We live like 2 mins from the beach and my family has a summer cottage there so girl had to get used to it and fast. I ended up walking her in the stroller lots on the beach, putting a blanket down for her to play on, and at home I had a bucket of sand for her to get used to the texture. My moms compromise was that I would still go with them (we live not far from Cedar Point) but I didn't have to ride and they'd go on some stuff I liked too. My dad didn't want to compromise and would make me feel like I was spoiling everyone's fun even though I never complained about waiting in line with them and just stepping out of it at the end. It was the worst. Like for the sand maybe bring a tent and have a bucket of water she can rinse them off in. My oldest was scared of the ocean but between pretty shells, wanting to fill moats up with water and looking at little animals she started putting her toes in. We'll probably just keep taking her, but it's hard because the closest beach is almost 2 hours away, so we're kind of stuck when we get there. Oldest lo was scared of the pool, didn't ever want to go, now is like a little fish. Maybe its just her personality but she shows an initial strong aversion and fear of lots of new things. . Then we coax her, show her what's awesome and she joins in. Same thing with food. Today she hates tomatoes, yesterday she loved them. I think it's the wind/sun/sand/water, is just too overwhelming for him. We keep trying every summer though!
