Our daycare provides milk but E rarely takes it there - she drinks water all day. She gets her milk at breakfast and at bedtime.... so I'd go with the 2% personally.

I probably wont ever switch from whole at home, but i wouldnt worry too much about daycare being different. They dont really need milk at all nutritionally speaking, so i dont think it matters and i would go with saving money/life being easier as priorities :)

I was planning to bring 3% ( and sunscreen actually since they use SPF 30 and I use higher)... Until his first day before I brought anything in, teacher offered a glass 2% and I realized it was no big deal and decided not to bring anything that they already have.

I think as long as your LO isn't super tiny, it would be fine. I asked my pediatrician if we could switch to 2% (because LO is 99th percentile) and she said sure.

Oh my gosh I never even thought about this! For some reason I assumed LO got homo milk at DC but I bet she just drinks whatever the family drinks since it's home day care. When I think about it though, it's not too worrisome to me because she still gets two cups of homo milk at home with me. I say don't sweat it!

Sometimes we are out and about and we either don't have milk or run out of what we brought. Because of that, I've given M (20 months) 1% when that's what's available. I figure it's only once in a while, so no big deal. But full time in daycare is a bit different - although I actually have no idea what type of milk they're serving her there. I assume WCM since they are working hard to improve their state recognition level, but I've actually never asked. If she is gaining weight at a steady pace, I'm not worried.

Thanks for all of your input! Will have to discuss it with DH, but I'm leaning towards just doing 2% while at daycare since it's such a small percentage of her overall consumption. There have been a couple of times where she runs out and I have to go to the grocery store mid-week to pick up more milk for daycare. Anything to make my life as a full-time WOHM seems like the better way to go!

@lawbee11: we've been bringing Los wcm for over a year. She has a sensitivity to milk that's not organic (huge red diaper rash.) It's expensive but worth it for us. I probably wouldn't switch to 2% until at least 2 ish or whatever the ped recommends

I'd talk to your daycare... State law here mandates whole milk but DS's daycare was serving 2% to the 1 year olds until I mentioned it was against state regs...

We have the opposite problem - P drinks 2% at home per our pediatrician's recommendation, but gets whole milk at daycare. I doubt he drinks more than a glass all day so I don't really care. Bringing our own milk in would be way to complicated!

But it was 2% instead of whole milk, would you be ok with that? LO is 13.5 months and her center provides milk but it's 2%. We can provide our own if we choose so we've been bringing in WCM, but it would be so convenient (and cheaper!) to just go with what they provide. She'd still get WCM at home for breakfast, dinner, and on the weekends.

Would you go with what's provided (2%) or provide your own (whole)?
