OMG, I  corgis!

He barks a lot, but rarely wakes him up- really only if there is someone at the door. I worked in a shelter during pregancy #1, so he was pretty used to barking dogs.

It is possible to train a dog not to bark! It's pretty easy too and can be done in short 15 minute sessions. I did this with both my last and current pup and they never bark at anything. My current pup started getting excitable when someone would knock but now you never hear a peep out of him!

Here's a great video showing the method I use.

We have two dogs who can go nuts barking and will not stop. It's never phased LO. She's a deep sleeper though, once I walked by an SUV with her asleep in the carrier and the car alarm went off with horns blaring and lights blinking and she didn't even stir!

My dog barks at everything. During roughly the first 6 months, the barking usually didn't wake DD up, or if it did startle her, she usually went right back to sleep on her own (and she typically napped in the living room, not her bedroom, so the barking could be pretty loud). Now that she is getting older though, the barking wakes her up more often and it is not as easy to get her back to sleep.

My mom adopted our dog a few years back so we only see him when we visit my parents or when they visit us. He's a chronic barker if the door bell rings in real life or in the TV and if you plan on leaving the house because he wants to go too. Fortunately, the barking never woke DS up.

LO will wake only if our dog continues to bark. If it lasts for a minute or less, she's usually okay. It has happened and it is annoying, but we deal with it. We love LO, but we love our pup, too :)

@Littlebit: lol it is super annoying. He makes up for it by being adorable, but we threaten to debark him daily. He knows we're bluffing. :)

My dog is a psychopath with barking as well. He barks at EVERY.LITTLE.SOUND and we live in apartment building. He's lucky he's so cute and sweet the rest of the time.

I'm really hoping baby will be used to it when he arrives in few weeks because we have tried everything short of a shock collar to stop his barking. I have brought the baby I care for over to my house for naps and our dog has barked, but it didn't wake him the couple times. And he was a light sleeper! I'm hoping the same happens with our baby.

Don't have a LO yet, but wanted to chime in - I do think it's a Corgi thing! My friend has one and it barks at every little movement also. It's a happy bark, but it's ANNOYING.

Our "pup" barks all the freaking time. All the time.

In the beginning it did wake her up a few times. But she eventually got used to it. We had to threaten the dog with the muzzle, a lot, in the beginning!

I'm worried about this too! But the little girl I nannied last had two very barky dogs in the house, and they only disturbed her if she was really struggling to fall asleep, or about to wake up anyway. And they were LOUD.

Yes and no. Our little yip yapping Yorkies wake him, but our big dog has a deeper bark and it never wakes him.

We have a corgi, and I love him, but he's a freaking psychopath when it comes to barking. I took him to training classes and asked for tips to curb this, but I was told this is basically just in their protective nature.

Things that make my dog bark:
- I stand up
- It's time to go outside. Or time to wake up. Or time to go to bed. He's generally VERY excited any time we move locations
- I turn the tv on or off. Or close my computer.
- Anything beeps (tv, computer, microwave, oven, etc)
- There is any noise outside, like a truck. Or a dog.

I've heard that LOs are so used to the sound of your dog barking from the womb they just tune it out when they arrive and I'm hoping that is true! Wanted to see how many people here have found that to be true in their own homes.

ETA: the adorable offender
