First one was 8 lbs 10 oz - 5 days early
second one was 7 pounds 6 oz - 7 days early.

I gained about 20 pounds less with #2 and ate better as well, so a lot of it was me. I thought for sure i would have another huge baby though, it runs in my family. My second daughter was the smallest out of the 6 nieces/nephews.

@oliviaoblivia: Thanks! I'm hoping my second is similar to your second in size, too! Right now (36.5w) my doctor says that he feels "slightly bigger than average" but that it's hard to really tell, especially in taller women (he says we hide big babies better :meh: ). They're going to keep checking and might do an US around 38 weeks if thinks I'm feeling/measuring large (although I never measured large with DD either...), and then if they're really concerned they will schedule an induction for 39 weeks.

@Torchwood: My DD is similar to your cousin in that she started off large (10 lb. 9oz at 40w2d) but is on the smaller side now. At her 18 month appointment was in the 25th percentile for height and weight (not due to a condition though)!

@gracecat: The weight of our firsts were similar so I'm wondering if you felt as big with the second? I'm almost 37 weeks and I feel about the same which freaks me out a bit, but also it's hard to gauge because who doesn't feel huge at the end of their third trimester?!

@mrsjyw: Oh man, that is way off!

First was 9 lbs 1 oz.
Second was 8 lbs even, and I had GD during that pregnancy, so I credit the GD diet to his lower weight. I often wonder if I developed GD later in my pregnancy with DS1 than they test...

@Ash: Off by 2 pounds under or over?

My OB also said that he would check for size around 34 weeks because after 36 weeks they run out of space and room to accurately get a good measurement.

8 lbs even @ 38w

I carried smaller and gained less the second time but still had pretty similar sized babies. Eta: a resident did a growth us when I was in labor and told me ds2 was measuring 5.5lbs.... Good thing I know from ds1 that likely wasn't the case!

A baby diagnosed with fetal macrosomia has a birth weight of more than 8 pounds, 13 ounces (4,000 grams), regardless of his or her gestational age.

LGA babies have birthweights greater than the 90th percentile for their gestational age, meaning that they weigh more than 90 percent of all babies of the same gestational age.

First was 9 pounds 5 ounces at 40w5d. Second was 9pounds 10 ounces at 39weeks. Since my first was so large, I was tested for GD in the first trimester with my second pregnancy, in addition to the third trimester. I did not have it either time.

I also had size estimate ultrasounds at 32 and 36 weeks (they compared measurements) with my second pregnancy. Their size prediction was bang on (high 9 pounds). My OB said if they predicted a baby would be 10 pounds, they would offer me an elective C-section and if she was predicted to be 11, they would strongly encourage it.

For reference, my doc said their threshold for big is 8 pounds 10 ounces at term.

I asked about induction and she said they would not do one for size concerns alone before 40w as long as everything else looked fine. I did have an emergency C-section after 3 hours of pushing with my second as she would not budge. My first was a vaginal delivery without a vaccum assist or anything like that.

I did feel a lot bigger this time but my pregnancy was actually easier. And the baby weighed more (especially for coming almost 2 weeks earlier) but was 1.5 inches shorter.

I'm interested in this. LO was 5lb7oz at 33 weeks. The midwives were questioning whether I got my dates wrong (I didn't). So how big might she have been at term?

My cousin's first was bigger (9lb I think) and second was small (7?). Interestingly, the first has a disease that causes nutritional issues, and is now off the charts small for his age at 5yo, but the second is growing so fast she's jumping curves at 2mo.

Second was 8lbs 10oz (peanut!) at 39w4d
Third was 10lbs 12oz at 38w4d

No rhyme or reason here. I know how big your first was so for your sake I'm hoping #2 is like my second.

I got extra monitoring with 2&3 but no red flags. I did an extra GD test with 3 but my bloods were perfect.
My first was induced for reasons other than size but ended up a c-section.

Second and third were repeat sections.

Third was delivered early because I got pregnant too soon after my second, not because of size. I don't want to think about how big she'd have been ten days later.

Did you feel as big/bigger with subsequent pregnancies? Were you monitored more closely and/or encouraged to induce early?

I know everyone has a different opinion on what "large" is so I'm not putting a minimum
