We did do newborn photos around 3 weeks at our home. We wanted some of the 3 of us but me just giving birth the night before and my husband just waking up in a daze.. they were not the kind of framer photos we wanted. Plus, had I know how many hospital personal would be coming and going constantly I would have told the photographer no thanks and enjoyed 20 minutes of peace instead. Same company came into our room... Just waltzed in like it was a given that that was part of the routine for the day. I was going on my 2nd day of no sleep & so foggy, but started looking through their paperwork & realized what they were all about. I drug myself out of bed to poke my head out into the hall & tell them no thanks. I had forgotten to complain about that part of our hospital stay... This should not be an opt out, but an opt in service & certainly not on their schedule or at that early stage. My helpers were either out or asleep & I truly felt delirious. Quality was pretty good, cost around $150+ for all photos printed, disk and online access and thank you cards. My bestie declined the photo shoot thinking she would get some done at home later, and never got around to it = very few brand new baby photos. The lady was very nice, just snapped a few pics quickly while LO was sleeping. She came back a bit later to show us the proofs. I didn't feel pressured at all since you can buy them online at your convenience; it wasn't like she was standing their waiting for me to purchase. They gave us a credit for a print and sent us a keychain, but we didn't end up purchasing anything. I probably would have if they turned out a little better! Their tactics felt very exploitive. The pics were ok but super expensive!! They harassed me all throughout my hospital stay and then after! I still get their emails! I had no idea what was happening when they came in and if I had they never would have gotten past the door! We had a newborn shoot a week later with a professional - highly recommend that. We actually like them... yes they are pricey but it was worth it for us. For our first we didn't know it was a thing some lady just came in and asked if she could take pictures and we said okay. We really liked them and bought them. When we had our second we asked for them and also liked the pictures they did again. Maybe it's the photographer that works at the hospital that makes the difference? They turned out really nice, especially some she took of us with my MIL and her mother who were visiting at the time. I didn't think they were that great, but my delirious husband ordered all of them. It was maybe $300? I actually really like about 3 of them. It's much better to spend the money on a real photographer to do newborn shots at home.
