@Mrs. Pen: I didn't know about this book...but this is exactly what we say to LO. She's been asking for awhile. She knew she came out of my belly because I have a C-section scar & she knew that DH and I made her. But she wanted to get into specifics so she knows sperm and egg and uterus -- but not the intercourse part.

I'm sure that's coming.

The funny thing is that she's become fascinated with the fact some babies come out of vaginas (!!!). She says, "Mommy, did you know some people poop their babies out of their vaginas? Did you feel like you had to poop me out?"

I didn't correct her.

My three year old asked when I was pregnant. First, he wanted to know how the baby would come out so I told him that it would come out of my vagina( although I ended up having a c-section, so now he knows I had surgery to get the baby out).

Then he wanted to know how the baby got there and I just said, "Mommy and Daddy made the baby." Luckily, he left it at that.

I do remember from a young age, maybe 5 or 6, having a book that outlined the process of baby making in pretty thorough detail. And it had this dreamy, late 70's/early 80's illustrations.

My son knows he came from my belly and when he asks how he got there, I tell him God put him there. He's not nearly ready for the Mommy and Daddy part of the process.

DD has asked a lot, I told her mums have an egg and dads have a fish (probably should have used a better word but was going with the swimming analogy) and the fish found the egg and together they made a baby. I had c-sections so I showed her my scar where her and her brother came out. She hasn't asked how the fish got there yet.... Not sure what I will say when she does as she likes to talk about private parts very publicly....

I have no issue being honest from a young age, but I would probably start with the most vague answer (we love each other and wanted a baby) and see if they push for more or not. Then you can sort of gauge their readiness for more info and ability to understand.

My daughter is almost 3 and has been very interested in this since I'm pregnant and a lot of her friends are getting sibling as well. I just told her babies grow in mommy's tummies and the doctor will take her baby out when she is big enough. She accepted that mommies, daddies, doctors, and God "decide" when it's time for a baby to grow without asking more about the process.

I just told her, in very basic terms. My daughter was 4 when I was pregnant, and I didn't want to bullshit her. She knows that sex is a thing adults do, and that she was created that way. She knows that it involves the father putting a seed into the mother where it grows into a baby. No big deal.

We bought him a book about babies since he's been interested since I got pregnant.

It talked about how women have a uterus, and an egg and sperm need to meet to make a baby. Then the baby grows in the uterus.
He loved the book!
It didn't talk about the sex part and he didn't think to ask how the sperm/egg got there. But he knows it was mommy and daddy.

My almost 4 year old just asked how her niece was made (3 weeks old.) I started by saying "she came out of my sister's belly" and she goes I know that, but how did she GET there. And I just said because they loved each other and wanted a baby and she says "ahhh that's so sweet." haha so I guess it worked for now.

How would you answer the question?

My 4 year old just randomly asked who made her. I just told her we did (mom and dad) and then she came out of my belly, and left it at that. I was kind of caught off guard, but she seemed content with the answer!
