I remember having these leg pains regularly for several years when I was a kid. Tylenol or Advil and a heating pad helped a lot.

I remember them being really painful, and they almost always happened at night.

Thanks for the responses. I did give ibuprofen after the 5th wake up last night. She didn't wake up after that.

The heating pad was in DS's room last night. I'll try that next time.

I have lots of patients with this and advise a heating pad before bed or when it's sore and parents massage. Gentle stretches if you can get her to do that a bit during the day. Massage therapy can also help if you're comfortable with that.

I had them ALL the time when I was younger, they were so painful I remember them vividly. Mine didn't go away until I was probably 9 or 10. I would let her have meds if you aren't too opposed to it, it really is painful.

My daughter has had them for years (she's almost 6). I almost always give her Motrin or Children's Advil because she's so uncomfortable. She's usually able to go to sleep once she's had some medicine.

@Corduroy: I had them for years on and off. They were super super painful and like @Mrs. Champagne:'s husband, i would be squirming in pain in bed. I would try giving some motrin before bed and see if it helps!

We haven't dealt with this with LO, but DH said he remembers having growing pains and they were really painful - he remembers lying in his bed squirming in pain.. I would give medicine if you think it would help! I don't ever remember having them growing up so I don't know what it feels like.

Hopefully short lived! ❤

...how long did they last?

LO is almost 4yo and has been waking up a few nights a week due to leg pain. I think she's accurately describing the pain because she just lays in bed moaning, awake. Then she falls back asleep if we rub her legs.

We're also dealing with occasional nightmares/terrors but that looks very different. She's asleep for that and they come at a different time of night.

LO is on her third wake up tonight due to leg pain. She's asking for medicine but I really hope she can sleep through it.

How did you deal with it? How long did it go on?
