@MarieJ: She had about 10 in 6 months. She's a "severe" case, but I think they normally suggest tubes if they have 6 or more in 6 months. My pediatrician usually won't suggest them over the summer (since they only last 6-12 months) and there are less colds going around in the spring-fall. Hopefully your LO doesn't have to have them. But if she does, just know it's a super fast procedure... like 15 min fast! And there is very little down time. DD is already back at daycare today.

@regberadaisy: @edelweiss: @Andrea: @T-Mom: @Mrsbells: Thank you!

@lemondrop: Thanks, friend :-) It was definitely harder on me than it was on her. I was a mess, especially when they took her away from me (I thought I could stay back until they knocked her out). But it was a very fast procedure and I think the anesthesia had a reverse effect on her. Instead of taking nice naps yesterday, she was running around like a maniac, so maybe she feels better already?

@BabyBoecksMom: poor LO! If you don't mind me asking, how many total ear infections has she had? My LO is on ear infection number two (she's 6 months) and I'm terrified she'll have to have tubes.

Aw, hope she feels better soon and glad there was a good explanation for the bleeding. DD had tubes and we didn't experience any bleeding ,but I believe her ears were also clear at the time.

@regberadaisy: The tubes are put in for kids with chronic ear infections. DD gets one or two with each cold she gets because the congestion in her head prevents her ears and sinuses from draining, which in return causes fluid build up and infections.

During the procedure, they cut a very small hole in their eardrum and place this little plastic tube in there that will allow the pressure to equalize, even when she's congested. I know so many people that swear by them, saying that their LO was a completely different child after they had the procedure done. The whole thing took about 15 min, so she was only under for about 7 of those.

DD hasn't had a cold in over a month, but the surgeon said that she still had a lot of fluid built up in her ears and that the ear drum had so much pressure on it. :-( I know it was the right decision....

...was there bleeding after the tubes went in? DD had hers put in yesterday, and they said there could be some discharge, but one of her ears is covered in blood after she wakes up from a nap and this morning.

I plan on calling the doctor when they open, but I wanted to check with other moms to see if that is normal?

ETA: I just talked to the nurse and she said that my daughter had an infection in that ear when they put the tubes in. So, what looks like blood is actually the extra fluid mixing w/ a little blood and making it look like a lot.
