@coacheswife123: hehe! I think Target sells them too so if you are ever in a bind and need some fast :) Hope it helps.

Medicines were one of the last things I remember considering for trace amounts of foods. We could never find a prenatal free of all his triggers so I eventually had to stop them altogether. I hope these work for you!

@coacheswife123: Rainbow Light makes a common allergen free one: http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=86386&catid=183029&aid=338666&aparam=goobase_filler&device=c&network=g&matchtype=.

If you look at the ones made with whole foods they are usually more likely to be soy and dairy free, but can get pricey. I think there is a more inexpensive brand that is dairy/soy free but I can't remember right now.

@coacheswife123: Sorry! I didn't read everything before commenting, but I'm glad to hear you have seen an improvement. That is so awesome and I hope that these are the only 2 things you need to eliminate :).

For us the mucus always lasted longer than the bloody stools (we had blood and mucus with a bunch of other foods outside of the top 8 which is part of what led to our FPIES dx...along with vomiting). The eczema took a long time to clear, so I would try not to be too alarmed if you are still seeing it over the next few days-weeks. Hang in there! You are doing an awesome job!

@coacheswife123: A little late, but it took a full 6 weeks for dairy to clear our systems...he had bloody stools from dairy and it took 6 weeks from them to finally stopped. We fed through it. Make sure you are getting ALL trace forms of dairy out of your diet and not just the obvious ones. You may even have to check into the ingredients of your prenatals or other medications. I know I had to stop all supplements and I could only have one specific brand of my thyroid medication that did not contain dairy and would always have to double check with the pharmacist that I was getting that brand.

ETA: We cut out dairy, soy, egg and peanut the first round and saw no improvement within a week and his then GI ordered the rest of the top 8 (wheat + gluten, tree nut, shellfish and fish). I would go ahead and eliminate both dairy and soy now since they are about 50/50 cross reactive. The Food Allergy Network has some good PDF files that you can take along with you when shopping to help make sure you are avoiding all forms. Also be aware that things like "natural flavorings" can be derived from anything and do not need to be reported so we try to avoid them at all costs as well. Here is a link to the label reading guide: http://www.foodallergy.org/document.doc?id=133

He improved somewhat after a few days, but I wasn't perfect about the diet. After he started nutramigen he was a different baby altogether - but he was also 4.5 months then and their demeanors change so much around that time.

@coacheswife123: isn't it amazing?! Wahoo for a happy baby! I'm sure the skin issues will take some time. Lo's eyes were puffy and always red (don't know if that was from 24/7 crying or his digestive issues) but I went away shortly afterwards.

Thought I would follow up. I've been dairy and soy free since Monday and have noticed an immediate improvement with his gas. He also is back to sleeping at least 8 hrs a night. No more blood in his poop but it is still mucousy . He also still has some eczema but I'm sure it will take some time to clear? I'm just glad he is feeling better!

We noticed a difference within a few days of me cutting dairy and soy. I started reading labels and got really good at cooking without either. Soy came back into my life at 9ish months, now she's only nursing every once in a while so I allow myself small amounts of dairy but we've kept her off it up to now.

@coacheswife123: I think it's better to eliminate both at first and then add back as tolerated. I do believe there is a spectrum, but it's always possible that it's just early in the illness and if you kept on with dairy, you'd see worsening. (we did his because we were in denial a little bit).

I think you can do whatever you want with those bottles. I'd probably just start fresh, but that's just me.

I wish you the best of luck and hope it's just mild an quickly sel-resolving!

@Mrs. Jacks: mind if I pick your brain for a few more questions?

1. should I start with eliminating just dairy and see where that gets us or go ahead and do soy as well?
2. I usually keep a few bottles of milk in the fridge. LO gets a bottle each night from DH. Should I freeze the ones that are in there and start fresh with pumped bottles from today - since I've eliminated? I know its still in my system so I didn't know about this?
3. Are there varying degrees of intolerance? My LO doesn't have all of the symptoms and they have just started to develop. He is never terribly fussy but the past few days when he has had gas he cries for maybe 5 minutes before burping then settling down. I know its gas that is bothering him but he isn't screaming all day everyday. I'm wondering if he just has a mild intolerance (if that is a thing??) and if after several weeks of going dairy (and maybe soy??) free if I can just stay away from the biggies (milk, cheese, butter, cream, etc) if he is tolerating well? Didn't know how that would work?

Thanks so much!

@TurtleDoves: I'm not vegetarian ! Can you send it to me or post on my wall? I can give u my email on your wall?

I called the doc. The nurse said its normal for them to have a tiny bit of bloody poop and sometimes they strain and that causes them to have blood and to call them back if it happens again

But my gut tells me it is something more than that. He doesn't have any little fissures near his butt that would bleed and he has not been feeling well, has been so gassy and fussy and I really think the two are related. He is not normally like that at all.

A good place to start is my MSPI blog post. I walk you through everything that needs to be taken out of your diet. It's not minor, it's a big deal. You also need to cut out soy, because 50% of these babies have cross reactivity to soy as well.

My daughter wouldn't drink formula so we fed through. It takes up to two weeks but we noticed marked improvement over the first week. Make sure you are pulling ALL milk proteins out of your diet. Can't do it halfway.

@TurtleDoves: Never pump and dump! Your baby may be able to take milk proteins in a few months. For us, Lala was still drinking breast milk after she got better and I was able to feed her my frozen stash!

Not that I encourage this: but we actually have him nutramigen for 11 days until it left my system. They say 2 weeks but on day 11 I got so sick of pumping and dumping that I had him latch on, and he was fine.
Seriously-- after you solve this issue: your child is like night & day. He went from zero sleep and 24/7 crying to sttn (7-8) and a few later at 11-12w he started the full sttn.

Even with nutramigen, it took maybe 48h to see a big improvement.
