Not necessarily meaning there's a lot of those names IRL. My LO has a top ten name but we have never personally met another girl with the same name directly. Although one of these days, she will prob deal with having a same name in her class. </p> <p>Funny story, but there's like 4 Harper's in her ballet class. And two of them even have the same initial. But I love my name, and wouldn't want to be anything else. It's never bothered him. </p> <p>I'd rather choose a name that I really love even if it's popular than a name that's uncommon that I don't love as much. </p> <p>Also, there's just no guarantee with names - you can choose a name that's outside the top 100 and in 5-10 years it could be in the top 10 (like if it's a name used in a book, show, movie, celebrity, etc). It was literally the only name we could agree on although I wished for something less popular--I just love her name! We definitely know of other people with her name, like an older sister of one of her classmates, a few colleagues' girls, but no one in our day to day life.</p> <p>We just had DS and his name is top 20. It has been in the top 10 for a decade, but it is also a very classic name. In France, we know a number of kids with his name, and you hear it on the playground and out and about all the time, but it doesn't bother any of us. We are having a really hard time with a boy name and anything we agree on ends up being pretty popular, with James and Ethan being the current faves. Our daughters name is outside the top 100 but not unheard of. </p>
