@daniellemybelle: she's actually fine out in public (which is a dream, big sister didn't care where we were she would lose her mind if she was tired) but at home she gets grouchy about it really quickly, so I feel like she's crying a lot. I know it's probably not true, it just feels that way!

Hang in there! My LO has always needed lots of sleep and she fought it for the first year or so of her life. Now at 2 she sleeps 12-13 hours most nights and takes a 3 hour nap! I wish I had not obsessed over sleep so much when she was a baby - but it was too hard when I knew she was tired all the time. :/

My oldest dropped his 3rd nap around 10/11 months. It was amazing when he was finally able to be awake for longer stretches, like more than 2-3 hours, and we were actually able to go out and do activities without the stress of no nap! (He really only slept in his bed.)

my LO needs a lot of sleep. We dropped the 3rd nap around 10/11 months and have been on 2/3/4 ever since (he's now 16 months). The 2 naps he takes are on the shorter side too (1-1.5hrs) and he gets more sleep at night.

Both of mine have high sleep needs.... but my oldest fought/fights sleep, while my youngest will just lay down on her own. I believe daycare started consolidating the naps to 2 a day around 9 months, and then only one a day at 12 months (I think they still needed more than that).

@Mrs. Sunshine: I definitely had/have a baby with high sleep needs. He's almost 16 months now. But until 8/9 months he was sleeping 2-3 hours for 2 naps a day, one 45min-1hour nap and then sleeping 12-13 hours a night!
Once he hit 8/9 months he moved to two naps a day, pretty solidly. Still 1.5-2 hours per nap, then 12-13 hours at night.
At 16 months he's still on 2 naps a day, 1-2 hours each (I usually have to cut them short so they don't interfere with bedtime). Then he sleeps 12-13 hours at night.

One thing that I've read and my ped told me is not to try and cut naps before they show signs they are ready. They have high sleep NEEDS so while it sucks sometimes, we should let them tell us when they need less sleep. I definitely tried to force him down to one nap a month or so ago and he wasn't ready and it majorly backfired. I misread his cues and just figured "he's 15 months, time for 1 nap" and really he just needed longer awake time between his naps. So we did some tweaking and while I still feel a little restricted by his nap schedule, it's a lot better now that he's awake for 3.5-4 hours between naps. I figure that when he's ready for 1 nap it'll be abundantly clear and not so painful for all of us!

@LBee: my oldest still naps (just one nap though) so I'm hating multiple naps. Not only because sometimes I feel chained to them but also because the day can vary so much and sometimes they don't always go down at the same time and I'm tag teamed all day! lol

@Mrs. Sunshine: The good thing is that he really rocks 2-3-4 (although I'm hating that he's toying with the idea of 1 nap) and it gives me some down time on the weekends. I definitely know the feeling of being a slave to naps, though.

Not what you want to hear, but it was right before his first birthday that he went to two naps consistently. He has been solidly on 2-3-4 ever since.

@Mrs. Sunshine: how old is your LO? My LO slept so much as a baby! Like 14 hours over night and then 2 long naps (2-3 hours each) and a short nap (1 hour) for a long time! I think around 8 months she went to 2 naps. The one positive is bc she slept so much at night she gave up naps faster than most of her friends. She went to one nap right around 14 months and dropped to no naps around 3

If your LO seems to have high sleep needs when did they start consolidating naps? DD2 sleeps SO MUCH. We had an early bedtime last night and she was asleep by 645 pm. It's currently 810 and she's still asleep! She often takes three naps a day, despite my efforts to get her on a 2 nap schedule. I feel like I'm constantly putting her to bed or shes whining a lot because she's already tired. I'm ready for less naps!
