@LindsayInNY: yeah, I realized that last night. I should have said 4-10 ish months. Or maybe even 6-10 months. I think by 10-11 ish months most might be on soft foods and not on purees.

That's kind of a wide age range when it comes to solids... What DD ate at 6 months is different from what she's eating now at 11 months.

We did purees with LO1 but decided to do BLW this time and it's worked out great. She's about 7.5 months and she'll eat soft foods that we put in front of her. Her favorites so far are eggs, strawberries, watermelon, cucumbers, broccoli, and waffles. She's had a lot of different foods though. She's also already had peanut butter and loved it (our pediatrician gave the go ahead at 6 months whenever I was comfortable).

We didn't do BLW. We started with purees at 5 months. But by 9 months she was eating probably 75% very soft finger foods. By 11 months the only purees she had were pouches - she was almost completely on table food.

9.5 months. We do a bit of everything. Purees, oatmeal, finger foods (bite sized), teething wafers, etc. He's a great eater though so it's easy. He's really good at feeding himself pretty much anything bite sized. He loves cheerios, puffs, small cubes of any fruits or veggies, cheese, bread, etc. And he loves purees too. And formula!

@bluestriped bee: Purees and no BLW yet. I just don't think he is ready. He is 6.5 months this Monday but has no teeth and still wobbles a little sitting up!

We are making our own purees from recipes in this book called Cookbook for Wearers: http://www.amazon.com/Cookbook-Weaners-Wean-Green/dp/1481940708?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0.

So far so good!

My LO2 is 8.5 months. We started purées and oatmeal around 6 months. Currently I'd say he's getting maybe 1 purée (or yogurt) daily and the rest are finger foods, which he loves. I just cut up reasonably soft foods into bite size pieces and he self-feeds. Today he ate scrambled eggs, a multigrain waffle, melon (cut small and thin), spiral pasta with tomato sauce. He also likes cut up banana, broccoli, salmon. He wants to eat whatever we eat, so we let him have anything soft, cut up small.

My older LO was on purées for a limited time, too. Preferred finger foods.

Combo of everything I guess. She does not like purees but is now starting to let me feed her some at 7 months. Some food I rip or cut into small chunks and some food I give her big like cucumber sticks and flatbreads. It is trial and error for both of us with some gagging which is scary/uncomfortable for both of us, but I guess part of the process. Cheerios and peas helped her get better fine motor control. And as long as things aren't a major allergen, like eggs or peanuts, I threw caution to the wind and just give her stuff with mixed herbs and combinations of multiple foods.

We started purees at 6mos: sweet potato, squash, peas, broccoli, apple, prunes, avocado (mashed). We started adding soft foods, mashed & just easy to gum, around 9mos? LO eats small pieces of meats, veggies, fruit, rice, quinoa mixed with pureed squash, yogurt, cheese, avocado pieces... Lots of stuff! We haven't given any puffs or anything like that yet, though.

We combo BLW and purees at 10 months. Lots of broccoli and sweet potato. Avocado, banana, Apple, cheese, beans (cut up and refried), eggs sometimes, he loves pancakes, bites of whatever I'm eating.

He loves squeezy pouches so we keep them on hand if he's being fussy and won't eat the finger food we've given him.

Yeah, so our twins are almost 9 months (7.5 months adjusted) and they are pretty much on purees 3-4x a day. DS is crawling but not sitting unassisted yet. DD is not crawling and not sitting unassisted either. I guess I'm a bit hesitant in giving anything chunky until they can sit unassisted. I think DS might be ready because he has the core strength to crawl.

Maybe I'll steam some sweet potato, carrots or broccoli this weekend, cube or mash them and see how they do. I have given them puffs or teething wafers this past week and I'm so impressed that they can pick up foods already.

My LO is 9 months w/ 0 teeth... she is eating purees 3x a day & practicing with some finger foods but not really eating them well.. Allergies are a big deal in our family and it has been important for us to do early exposure with all of the top allergic foods and make sure they are actually eaten and digested. And likewise - it is important that some foods not get too messy so we don't expose my son to them. She also gets impatient if she can't get her food in her mouth. So purees have worked best for us for now. :)

DD (8 months next week) eats finger foods almost exclusively. It's not really BLW because I'm not giving her big chunks of food to eat. I break it up into bite size pieces for her. I keep a couple jars of baby food around for the days where I don't cook dinner and we get food that she can't have, like pizza.

We did purees from 6-9 months, then added in chunky purees after that. Around 10-11 months we started giving him small bites of whatever was on our plates, he was not interested in feeding himself until then. By 12 months he was eating whatever we were eating.

LO is 3 days shy of 4 months. Right now we are doing breast milk only. In 6 weeks we will do table food/blw starting with sweet potato, avocado, bananas, and homemade oat bars.

LO has MSPI + egg allergies + probable gluten issues (I have celiac, so am unwilling to do a trial), so we are going slowly with food and only doing unprocessed foods for as long as possible.

If your LO is 4-12 months...

What are you feeding them? Purees or soft foods (not pureed)

How old are they?

Oh, this does not include oatmeal. If you feed them breakfast on a daily basis, I'm talking about other meals and foods.

Oh, I'm excluding parents with older kids. I get this impression that BLW is more and more popular than pureed foods nowadays in 2015-2016.

Chime in if you are doing purees and not so much BLW.
