@Rubies: This sounds exactly like us! My LO was a horrendous sleeper from 0-4.5 months, and I always jokingly said "What's the return policy on babies?"

We sleep trained and LO has slept through the night ever since. I attribute her good sleep to the training, and I give 100% credit to Dr. Weissbluth!

@MrsHotDog: I am also prepared for a poor sleeper next month! :-)

We were lucky. We did no sleep training and have a great sleeper. We are those parents that other parents hate.

LO has been a good sleeper since the beginning and I attribute some of that to genes (I'm a great sleeper and love my sleep!) but I also think we probably established some good habits early and fortunately never had to sleep train.

I sometimes joke around that our next one will never sleep because we got lucky with this one but I do think we can take partial credit.

@highwire: my daughter started STTN at 6 weeks too and I take no credit for that either! I just say that she takes after her mom because I love my sleep.

We never did any sleep training or CIO but it took us about two months (from months four to six) to get nap times sorted out. It was a long two months but I am glad we got here!

I take part of the credit. LO was a horrible sleeper until about 8 weeks when we started to implement a schedule. I think she's one of those babies who thrives on routine. She was not an easy baby but she responded really well to all of my sleep training attempts!

He was a terrible sleeper until we hit 4 months. We started sleep training then, and the nighttime was worlds from where it was before. Naps still stunk, but at least we could get him down at night relatively quickly without having to rock him for an hour or more. Though he did start sleeping through the night at 7 weeks (at least 5 consecutive hours anyway).

I think it's horrible that people suggest your next won't be as easy as a baby. I hope you do have a very easy baby the second time around!

I think it is a combination of the two, but mostly she is a good sleeper naturally. She started STTN at 6 weeks (and has continued to do so pretty much ever since) and I cannot accept the credit for that since all I did was put her in a swaddle blanket and turn on a noise machine. If that was all it took to get a good sleeping baby, there wouldn't be countless books written and threads started on Hellobee surrounding the topic.

It does make me terrified for the hellion that #2 will be, similar to your sentiments....

i take full credit! it was the most heartbreaking experience to sleep train my LO and there is no way i'm going to let that slide as "luck."

and i would totally be annoyed if someone suggested that my next LO would be a horrible sleeper. that's just rude!

My LO was the WORST SLEEPER EVER from 0-4 months. I think I almost asked for a refund, it was so bad. But we sleep-trained and I thank God it worked wonders and miracles for us. Lo is almost 20 months and sleeps wonderfully.

If your LO is a good sleeper, do you think it is 100% luck or do you credit some of it due to you helping create good sleep habits?

My 20 month old is a great sleeper but it took us some time to get there! I don't take 100% credit for these habits because I do think a good majority of it was just how she is but I hate when people act like it was just a pure luck that we got a good sleeper. They obviously weren't around the first six months of her life! Anyways, with baby number two coming next month, I keep getting comments about how he is going to be a horrible sleeper and just a complete terror because our daughter is such an easy baby. It drives me nuts. I plan on doing the same type routines with him that we did with my daughter to hopefully create some good sleep habits for him too. But I am prepared for a horrible sleeper because I think I was pretty lucky with my daughter.
