@shopaholic: J is the same way, I can always tell when he's ready for nap/bed :)
and hated anything that resembled a swaddled with a passion! lol

He was sucking his fist/fingers in the hospital and by 8 weeks found his thumb.

She first started sucking it at 8wks, but wasn't consistent until 11/12wks. We used to guide it into her mouth sometimes to get her used to finding it. At 5mths she uses it to go to sleep, but that's all.

@PurplePeony: Our LO was the same way. I didn't want her to suck her thumb, but she'd get SO mad and frustrated before she "found" it. I think it was about 3-4 months when she was figuring it out. She didn't ever really like a paci, though I could try to use the WubbaNub sometimes to soothe her. Since she could use her own thumb though, she would throw the WubbaNub away.
Now she only sucks her thumb when she's: tired, about to fall asleep, or teething (not really "sucking"). I worry about it still, but it definitely is her mode of self-soothing.

@sandy: K too! We have u/s pics of her sucking her thumb. And she never liked being swaddled and not having her hands by her face.

@PurplePeony: my LO was sucking her thumb in the womb...at our NT scan she was sucking her thumb. We swaddled her and stopped around 3 months and she found her thumb right away. She's an awesome sleeper and that's when she sucks her thumb. Sometimes I worry about it but she doesn't suck her thumb during the day and doesn't suck it all night either...once she falls asleep her thumb isn't in her month... We'll deal with it when/if her dentist/pediatrician tells is it's a problem

Well, right after I posted she found it for awhile. She was back to sucking her fist later on, though...but I'm guessing it won't be long until she gets it consistently now. @oliviaoblivia: @Colee: you two are giving me such hope, I would LOVE for her to STTN! We're still having 2-3 wakings and I go back to work in two weeks.

My LO found her hands at 3 weeks, and now at 4 weeks finds her thumb 50% of the time. I'm trying to head it off and get her with the pacifier though!!

She found her thumbs at eight weeks, but couldn't get them in her mouth consistently until 3 months. Once that occurred, she started STTN.

Ten weeks. Then slept through the night 7-7 at eleven. She was a hard core thumb sucker for a while there and developed a callus on her knuckle. I thought it would become an issue as she grew older, but by ten months she had completely forgotten about it.

When did they find their thumbs? DD is 10.5 weeks and has been stuffing her hands in her mouth for a couple weeks, trying to get that elusive thumb. Lately, though, she's been getting SO MAD that she can't get her thumb! I don't particularly want her to suck her thumb, but if she's determined to do it I wish things would just "click" already! It kills me when she screams and I know what she wants but can't really do anything to help (sometimes she'll let me sub in the pacifier but usually she just shoves it away and screams at her hand).
