@catgirl: Yes, she has many hats and I make sure she's wearing one at drop off. But then she takes it off at some point in the day and then it doesn't seem to get back on so she needs the sunblock as back up.

@Corduroy: Not a huge help with the sunscreen but can you also send a hat, so even if face application isn't perfect the hat will provide some protection?

@misolee: This is a good idea to practice with regular lotion or to even start letting him do it with sunscreen in the mirror at home for a little while.
Mine will be 5 in sept and they will still help with sunscreen but I didn’t realize that in a year they won’t! Good to start practicing.
@lady baltimore: we also currently have a stick for face and I love it. Maybe I can teach him to draw that all over his face and rub it in. I think he might actually enjoy that.

My DD is six. I taught her to spray generously on her hands (she asks a friend to help ) and then rub it all over her cheeks, forehead, nose and chin. I make her put lotion on her face every morning the same way so it was easier.

The camp my kids go to has a specific sunscreen time when they go outside. Counselors help if asked.

My LO is 3, and I like the stick for her face. Being stubborn and independent, she insists on doing it herself fairly often, and with practice, knows to get her cheeks, forehead, nose, and chin. She's not great at rubbing it in all the way, but I'd rather have her running around with white streaks all over than with a sunburn.

Following for ideas. DS is 6 and can’t/won’t do his own sunscreen.

When I do DS face I do dots on each area then rub it in. Could doing something like this help her so she doesn’t miss a section.

My son is 7 and we use this babyganics spray sunscreen. It’s easy for him to spray on his hands and rub his face. Last year at his summer camp the counselors were able to help if the kids asked. But this year we are doing a bunch of different camps and he has to do it all himself. I know he missed a couple days last week because his cheeks were red when he got home. Not sure how to handle that part...

What are your best tips for teaching them, products, etc? Especially for the face. Somehow in all my summer camp sun protection prep I failed to realize LO would have no assistance in re-applying the sunblock.

ETA My DD is 6.
